Would you purchase a used hitch? Good or bad idea?

I was thinking of purchase a used B&W 3300 hitch from a local couple for $500.00. But, maybe I should purchase a new hitch for around $1,200.00 from a local dealer and have it set up for additional $75.00 to insure proper operation. What are recommendations and or additional help. This hitch is go to set in a new 2017 Ford dually.

Not trying to be cheep and make a big mistake.

I'm using a used Reese and have a used Superglide up for sale. They both work as good as new.

Chuck, I hope that it's not a "bad" idea! We're using a "used" Reese 20K 4 way articulating head!

I would get the used 3300 for that price. It is an easy install, easy to adjust up/down, or ahead/back. The 3300 has only been available since around 2012-13, so cannot be very old.

You can buy a new 3300 online from e-trailer, or others, for just under 1K, shipped free to your door. If the used hitch looks good, I'd go with it for half price. You will still get B&Ws great help/support, with the used hitch.

I'm upgrading my B&W companion hitch for my new tow. Heavier trailer requires it. New truck did not come with the puck system so installing the turnball but with the aluminum bed my old hitch won't work. I was hoping to sell it but found out the upper unit is useable but not the base so I'm only getting a new base. I didn't know these could be purchased separately till I talked to B&W. Otherwise there would be another 18k companion hitch for sale.

Unless truck was in a wreck that totaled it, hitch was heavily damaged or hitch was totally neglected I would purchase used any day.

Course that just about holds true for most anything.

I don't mind 'being cheap' when I can get almost new for used price.

That is how I got my SuperGlide. I would do it again. Saved a bunch of money on a good hitch.
