WVa flooding got my TH

Extensive flooding in WVa has us to where we can't get within 10 miles of our TH. We were in Beckley visiting my brother and we got word River was rising 2 to 3 feet an hour. We were 45 mins away from our camper and torrential downpours shut roads down to where we couldn't get to the TH to move it.. Long story short, don't even know if it's on our pad, or washed away... I KNOW it's under water to some extent... I called insurance comany and hope River drops low enough to be able to assess the damage and take pictures for insurance purposes. Rough night for the wife and I . We don't exactly know what to do... Oh, sons camper was also on our lot... Don't know it's condition either.

One never knows what is going to happen. Guess we're now without a camper...between me recouping from the stroke and wife from hip replacement.. This is just about a knock out blow... Don't know what we're going to do at this time.....

Not to sound harsh, but it's a good thing there was total destruction of the camper. The insurance company will for sure count it as a total loss and pay out whatever it's current value is, so you can get another one. 🙂

With Progressive, less than a year old, we get full cost. Replacement per the agent, we can probably Salvage the washer dryer combo and the Direct TV HD satellite on the roof. So now we're looking for a replacement

Agree, NO WAY they can't total it... It is trashed with water and mud 5-5 1/2' high.

Count your blessings if it is totaled. My son's house flooded last October, less than 12" of water and gone in a few hours. With no flood insurance, it took me 2 months and $16k to complete repairs. Even with that tragedy there was a blessing, our handicapped grand-daughter finally has a special shower. Again, trailer shopping is much better than some of the other possibilities.

You're right Troy... A lot of people had it a lot worse and lost homes and vehicles. We still have a home... It was utter devastation . So far 20 have died with some still missing. My son lives in Kingwood Tx, a suburb of Houston and so far they've dodged the flooding. We'll move on from it and are thankful it was just a camper.

Take care,
Jim

On edit: death toll up to 24 now...

Yes I'm sure they will total it too. It's certainly a major inconvenience but at least you and your family are safe and sound and that's what counts. I'm happy to hear you have adequate insurance coverage. 🙂

I am so sorry to hear about your misfortunes buddy. You know we are wishing you the best. There should be no way that they can try to salvage that with all the water damage....there will be mold.

Since you have full coverage, and knowing what you know - try to enjoy picking out a new unit. You've been through a lot, you will get through this....nobody was lost.

My friend, you are in my prayers that things will work out.

I wish I could help you. GO Mountaineers.

Hey Mike, it could have been worse, so we're counting our blessings and preparing to look for a new 5er

Don't upset yourself over this. Insurance will total it and you can buy a new unit. Material items can be replaced, people can't. Glad you're ok.

Wishing the best for you. We are camping at Summersville Lake now. We are high and dry. Just can't keep from thinking about what could have been if you were at the camper. Right now there are 20 confirmed deaths from the flooding some areas received 10" o rain in 3 hours. The camper is replaceable. So glad that you and family are safe and did not have to try to escape a very hazardous situation.

Know where you are. Thanks for the sentiments .

We went to the camper today though we couldn't drive up to it due to standing water. Water from the pad up to water line was a little over 7'.. Opened the garage and couldn't walk in fur to do much mud and debris... Same for the living room and kitchen.... Mud, silk, soaking wet is inside conditions.. Got up to a foot in bedroom.. "MAY" be able to salvage the washer/dryer combo, and will remove satellite dish from the roof... Water sit in unit for probably 10-12 hrs. Generator, inverter, powers supply were all under water... Have had 3 calls from Progressive and an agent will call us Monday to set up a time to look at the unit.. Door to the bathroom was already delamination where it had sit in water... I'm figuring and hoping they'll total the camper... Can't see them trying to repair... Had mud on the countertops in kitchen and up to the convection oven.

Got pictures, will post later

Shopping for a new one now I guess??.. Trying to be pessimistic about the situation

Will be able to get to my camper today, unless roads have been damaged... Will take pictures and find out what the damage is..

Been towing/camping for over 40 years and this is the first time anything like this has ever happened to us, so life has been good. Just seems since last August with the stroke and my wife having hip replacement last of May; there's been a lot happening.. Just another stage in our life. Prepared for the worse just in case... Already have a claim number from our insurance company and are covered for full price of our camper... Haven't had it a year until 12 August.. SOOO, we'll see what we'll see....

Thank you all for your thoughtful post. The support of friends in times like these is extremely helpful .

Thank you all,
