WW Repairs

As just about all of us have read here, certain models of WW trailers have defects that have resulted in a number of different problems. To one degree or another, this subject has come up on this forum and most of the posts have eventually been locked and/or deleted. The forum administration has decided to make a one-time exception and allow this thread in order to help our forum members get informed and hopefully get their trailers repaired.

IMPORTANT GROUND RULES:
  • This thread is a one-off exception to the following forum rule:
Posts are not allowed in which a local or state consumer action board and/or legal counsel is/have been involved. This includes posts related to future, ongoing or past lawsuits.
This exception applies to this one thread only. This rule will continue to be enforced in other threads. So keep the WW class action discussion in this thread, or your posts will be deleted.

  • The following rule will still be enforced:
You may post about problems you have with a product or organization, however the use of the forums to repeatedly attack them is strictly forbidden.
In other words, no bashing allowed. This thread is for disseminating information, not venting your spleen. Flaming, trolling, bashing, etc. will not be permitted.

  • Only general discussion of these problems and repairs are allowed. Specific questions about individual circumstances are not allowed ("my XYZ is bent, does this situation apply to me?").

  • We all have brains. Please use them. Verify what you read here. I am wrong all the time. Please don't rely on me for any decisions you may choose to make. If you make a bad call, don't blame me, please.

  • For the sake of full disclosure, I own a 2005 FS2600 and am having trouble with my trailer. I consider myself fairly objective, but that doesn't mean I don't ever have biases. In some recent cases where I could not be objective, I defered to Y-Guy and Admin to take the wheel. In this thread I will tell you what I've done and what my experiences have been.
Now, with that out of the way...

As most of you know, there has been a class action suit and Weekend Warrior is settling with the class. Here's a link to the Settlement Agreement: http://www.trailersettlement.com/sa.pdf. I won't go into the details of the settlement, because I don't want to be in the position of interpreting it or giving any legal clarification or advice. So if you're having trouble with your trailer, this is one possible avenue. Contact (866)459-6003 or visit www.trailersettlement.com for information about the class action settlement. They can tell you whether you qualify and where to go from there.

That's one option.

Without going into too many details, I discovered some problems with my trailer. After seeing pictures of some that were worse than mine, I decided I'd better do something before it got worse. However, I'm not a fan of class action suits. I've received too many checks for $10 in the mail to cover one class action or another. I didn't want to take the chance of having my trailer only partially fixed or having to personally pay a bunch of money for only half a fix. So I contacted Weekend Warrior directly and told them about my problems. Couldn't hurt, right?

Know what they said? "Let's make an appointment for you to bring it in and we'll fix it." :E

So yesterday I took my trailer down to beautiful Perris and dropped it off. I asked about the cost, and my service writer said they'd FIX IT. I watched him write up his sheet and he only filled in prices for the extra items I requested (fair 'nuf). Being the selfish guy I am, I took this bit of good news and high tailed it out of there counting myself a very lucky man. Sure, it would have been better if it hadn't broken in the first place. But the past can't be changed. I just want mine fixed.

After feeling fairly secure that I had MINE taken care of, I wanted to find out if I had just personally hit the jackpot or if this was the WW policy in these cases. So I contacted someone higher up at WW to find out if other people in this same situation could expect the same treatment. Here's what I was told:
Any customer who currently has an issue, we are standing behind [them]. If they have an issue that has not been resolved, we are directing them to contact us here, locally, or the dealership in their area.

We are standing behind our product. By that, I mean we are fixing anything that needs to be fixed as long as there are no apparent signs of abuse. If the consumer is, however, looking for any type of monetary compensation then we cannot directly assist them. They would then need to contact the (866)459-6003 number or visit www.trailersettlement.com.

There's your other option.

If you choose to contact Weekend Warrior directly for repairs, call (909)579-0353. The operator in Upland routes the calls to the appropriate repair facility in Perris (Superlite or Normal).

Actually, I was about done... just replying to a question. IF you feel it should go in its own thread, can you move it?

Don't think I've ever seen an E rated tire got to 95psi. Are you sure about that?

Yes, the new tires are Carlisle ST235/85R16 (Product code 5193411). Load Range LRF (F-rated?). 31.9" MTD Diameter, Maximum load capacity 3960 (single wheel); 3520, dual wheel, at 95 lbs. It carries the notation "requires HD wheel" - for that capacity/inflation.

http://www.carlisletire.com/products/trailer/radial_trail/index.html

So we're limited by the wheels, not the tires, but still able to load up to the GVWR of the trailer now.

Last month, we installed 16" steel wheels & Carlisle load range "E" tires (mfgr p/n 5193411), rated at 3960 lbs each @ 95 PSI (for a total tire capacity of 15,840 BUT - the best 6-lug, 16" wheels available are only rated for 3200 lbs each @ 80 PSI (total of 12800 - which is about the GVWR of the trailer anyway, but less than the tires). To get higher capacity wheels, we'd have to change the axles & go to 8-lug hubs/wheels.

But still, we now have 2400 lbs more capacity than we had with the "D" range tires. In addition, the rating on the wheels is most likely conservative, so we probably have an additional 100-200 lbs per tire as a safety margin. We don't intend to push that limit, but still; it's nice to know it's there.

I hope this long-winded post is helpful; if you have a similar problem, check your tire load rating... if we had done it sooner we'd have saved LOTS of $$$ and headaches.

Tony

I know this is an old thread, but we recently discovered a problem we've had since we bought our 2007 WW FSC2800, new, in late 2006.

The 2007 is a tandem axle Toyhauler; for the 2008 model year they went to a triple axle. That should have been a tip-off. We opted for the cleaner-looking fiberglass body (as opposed to the corrugated aluminum, which is MUCH lighter).

Almost from the start, we were experiencing blown tires on almost every trip; sometimes we'd blow two on the same trip. The tires were properly inflated, and checked at every food, rest, or fuel stop. We tried numerous brands of tires - Carlyle, Firestone, and Goodyear. Same problem with each - we'd be rolling along at 65mpg, and "POP" - a tire would blow. Sometimes the tread de-laminated from the carcass; other times, it just blew out the sidewall & shredded as we pulled to a stop. Once, it destroyed the fiberglass tire skirt, and took out the rear running lights (it was nighttime, of course).

The trailer's weight (according to the CAT scale readings when it was new) was well within the GVWR specified, and we always tried to balance the load evenly, so we didn't suspect a weight problem.

To say that this issue diminished our enjoyment of the trailer is a gross understatement; in fact, we rarely used it because of this.

Finally (just recently) we re-weighed the trailer, empty (~9400 lbs - very close to the original numbers we got). The weight we were hauling seemed to be within limits, even with 150 gallons of water, and a full Generator fuel tank and two bikes loaded.

I thought the wheels looked "skewed" - or out of alignment, so I took the trailer to a truck center that did Laser-alignment (I thought one or both axles was bent).

The good news: the axles were fine. The not-so good news - 3 of the 4 wheels were bent. Now, with all the tire changes we've had done (which required balancing), not a SINGLE shop indicated that we had bent wheels. The truck shop also informed us that they thought we were overloading the tires. We hadn't even considered that.

The tires on the trailer were 15", load range "D", rated for 2600 lbs EACH (for a total of 10,400 lbs. That's only 1000 lbs more than the empty weight; just filling the fresh water tank exceeds 10400 (150 gallons x 8.3 lbs = 1245 lbs, which put our gross weigh at 10,645, almost 250 lbs over the tire capacity! That's with nothing else loaded, and no fuel in the generator or fueling station tanks (let alone the contents of the black & gray tanks, toys, cargo, food, etc).

Buddy, you're in Lake Elsinore, you're in the same city as RV Doctor. Jim use to be a plant manager at WW. They are experts at fixing the exact frame issues you are having. Talk to Jim, he runs the shop. Its a pretty big shop. Its not cheap, but if you want it done better than new, actually much better than new, don't go any where else. They have a jig set up for the frame just for this upgrade fix.

Someone on here took theirs to a place that put extra outriggers and additional frame bracing on it. Try looking at this thread.

Just got back home from picking up our trailer at Warrior Lifestyles in Corona, CA. Very dissapointing!!! The inside of the trailer was a disaster. Several things that they said they had done off of the punch list weren't done (we only discovered these things by going over the trailer before we drove it off the lot). While on the way home the new bond between the metal on the front and the rubber on the roof started to come apart, lift, and flap in the wind. This is after paying these guys $4700.00. We called them to complain and were told that the trailer was just fine when it left the lot and all they could for us was send us the materials to fix it ourselves! Also, because we live in "snow country" we had winterized the unit a few weeks before taking it into them--when we picked it up I noticed water in the shower and in an empty trash can. When I questioned this, I was told it was from them pressure washing it and the water getting in through the vents. We decided to make sure there was no water in the tanks...thank goodness we did because there was at least a gallon...so we winterized again. We drove 15 hours one way down and back two times to have them fix this trailer and once they were paid, boy did the attitude change! By the way, they told us it is a Zieman frame from 2006.

sorry to hear that you took your rig there they are a bunch of people who worked at warrior back b4 they went under and mark the ex owner of warrior is there too its not under his name but hes running that place and i wouldn't trust them with my rig.

After searching and reading the "PM from Warmuth" thread, I am curious as to what he means by "helping" former customers as well as his new ones. I have not experienced any of the frame problems that plagued the pull behind models as I have a LE 5th wheel, but part of my decision on choosing a Weekend Warrior WAS the lifetime structural warranty. I suppose I was just unfortunate in the timing of the whole thing, as well as being a LOT more fortunate than others in the model I chose. To my knowledge, the wide body LE 5th wheels seem to hold up pretty well (knock on wood).
