X Chocks

My fifth seems to be pretty stable on it's front landing feet but I have the opportunity to buy a set of X-Chocks for a reasonable price.

My question is, are these chocks used more for trailers than fifth wheels?

I am unsure whether I should just get four good chocks for behind the wheels, or trust in X-Chocks instead, or should I just pass and let someone else get them?

I chock my tires when I unhook then put the X-Chocks on once the tires cool down, usually and hour or so later. They do help with the front to back motion and they a great of chocking the tires, last year I forgot to remove them and couldn't figure out why the trailer wouldn't move after I removed the regular chocks.

I'm going to give mine away to a buddy because they don't help me and I'm trying to lighten the load. I installed home made strong arms on the landing gear which is an amazing improvement.

Tighten 'em when you arrive on site and your X-Chocks, or any other in-between tire chock, will be loose once the tires cool and shrink in diameter. Guaranteed ... it's physics that you, nor I, nor anyone else can control. 😉

Wedge chocks aren't designed to "lock down" trailer wheels, merely to prevent the trailer from inadvertently shifting. Two different products, two entirely different purposes.

But hey, what would Norco, the manufacturer of the BAL X-Chock know?! :S

X chocks only. Only been using them for a couple of years now but am impressed with how they "lock down" the wheels compared to my old wedge chocks

X-Chocks don't know or care if your rig is a TT or 5th ... BUT they're not designed to actually "chock" the trailer and prevent it from inadvertently shifting, they're designed to reduce suspension "wiggle" when you walk around inside the rig. You still want to chock the tires with some other method that will absolutely prevent the trailer from shifting, as some of us have pointed out in this discussion.
