Hi just wondering how many of you fulltimers have a home or rv lot that you call homebase. My husband and I are trying to figure out what we want in retirement. I would be just fine with just the RV but my DH feels he needs just a small piece of property so if after 5 months of traveling he feels like coming back to what he calls his space and take a break even if just for a month. Just would like to hear from you fulltimers on the subject. Thanks Tara

We have a house and a 15 acre piece of land aout 90 miles away all set up for the RV, which we are basically using as a weekend getaway. (from what, I don't know). We head south in the winter. I'm for selling the house and fulltiming it. DW thinks she has to have a S&B to come back to. So that's where we're at. If any one wants a piece of land for a "home base", we've got a 13 acre spot in East central WI to sell. Its quiet!!!

If you have a home base then you won't be a fulltimer!

We are nearing retirement and going through a negotiation process. I want to release the anchor and sail away from the shore as a fulltimer. My DW wants to keep her roots planted and have a home base. Time will tell.

He has been talking to my DW. She feels she must own a chuck of land or that she is homeless and in some kind of danger of not having a place to stay if something happens. Anyway, ask him why he feels this way, does he have a hobby that requires space or is there something he wants to do a certain time of year, are there grandkids or friends that he will miss or what? The DW loves her big garden, so that is her reply, she needs a garden to be happy. I told her I would fill the back of the PU with dirt and she could garden that way...did not go over well. There is always a underlying reason, all you have to do is find it.

We sold our home and banked the $$. On our travels we kept our eye open for a place we would want to call homebase. It came quite a bit sooner than we expected and we ended up buying a house in Santa Fe. I guess we could be called snowbirders or most-timers now.

So during your travels DH could look for his perfect homebase.

We do have a small lakeside cottage in Upstate NY that we visit from time to time since our kids both live near by. Most of the time, even when we're there as we are right now, we just plug into the RV outlet, hook up the water and sewer hoses, and go right on living in the coach. We sometimes move into the cottage while we're making repairs or modifications to the coach, or the weather is exceptionally bad though.

Right now we are snow birds with a house in RI and a Townhouse in NH. When we get back from Florida next spring we will put the house in RI up for sale and move up to the lake in the townhouse and still snowbird, but not return home all the time just leave from Fla and head wherever before eventually getting back to NH for summer. Need roots 🙂
Have Fiver will travel with little or no notice at all. I do need to stop at rest areas now and then:)

No house or rv lot. We keep a large chunk of $$ in a CD in case we change our minds.

We sold everything and then hit the road.....with an exit plan just in case.

After 7 yrs. of FT traveling all over the USA.....never staying in one place for long periods (traveled every week.2 weeks) we HAD to exercise our exit plan.

Bought another home and just do camping trips vs traveling.

Had looked at RV lots and just parking 5vr but decided a 'house' was the way to go for us.
Would rather still be FT traveling but life throws curves so you adjust an whack away.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Yep that is what my husband is saying. He loves the idea for traveling for 3-4 months T a time or longer but he wants his home space. Be it a rv lot or a small cabin.

Personally, I would not dream of having to live in a camper all the time. I would have to have a "homebase" for R&R every now and then. Some do the full time thing and more power to them, but I could not do it. I could travel just so much and then the "wanderlust" would pale and I would want to go home for a while.

Trust me I so agree with you. My DH just has some hesitation. So I thought if I posted Question on here he could read what everyone has to say. Thanks so much for your thought 🙂
