Want to plan a walleye fishing trip next year. We live in PA,would appreciate any campground within 12hrs from us. Will be camping in a truck camper, also would like to rent a boat. Thanks for any advice. Any suggestions on which month, avoiding the worst mosquito time, and which month may be best fishing?

The Regulations DO NOT APPLY to non-residents who operate their pleasure craft in Canadian waters for less than 45 consecutive days.

Unless you have a particular reason for
visiting Canada,
I would advise you to think about western Lake Erie.

The Wallye fishing is world class

From the "horse's mouth", so to speak
https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/marinesafety/debs-obs-quick-quick_visitor-1610.htm

An excerpt:

The Regulations apply to non-residents:
โ€ขIf they operate their pleasure craft in Canadian waters for more than 45 consecutive days or,
โ€ขIf they operate a pleasure craft that is licensed or registered in Canada (including rented or chartered boats).
โ€ขThe Regulations do not apply to non-residents who operate their pleasure craft in Canadian waters for less than 45 consecutive days. Please note that a proof of residence will be required on board at all times.

Acceptable Proof of Competency for Non-Residents

For non-residents, proof of competency can take one of three forms:
โ€ขA Canadian-issued pleasure craft operator card.
โ€ขA completed boat rental safety check-list (for power-driven rental boats).
โ€ขAn operator card or equivalent that meets the requirements of their state or country.

I notice no one knows the cost of a non-resident fishing licence? Also no one mentioned we do have a boat operators licence, required to operate/rent a power boat. I don't know what the requirement is for visitors.

Boat operators license is not required for non-Canadian residents unless it just changed since this past summer.

Regulations as mentioned above are specific to the province. Chances are the distance the thread starter wants, he/she/they will be fishing in New Brunswick, Quebec, or Ontario.

Go to https://www.google.ca/ "fishing regulations & name of province".

Boat operators license is federal ..... "license to operate under Canada Shipping Act" .... safety and boat registration is provincial. Poster is not bringing his own boat but wants to rent one .... that opens a big can of worms.

No worms - if they are non-residents of Canada. I've fished all over Canada since the early 50's and it's never been a requirement. If I hire a guide - he's got a license to be a guide and operate the boat. It would be like going to Fla and you as a Canadian wanting to rent a boat. There's no legal requirement to have an boat operators license - b/c there isn't any.

If your planning on eating the fish you might Google this, I think you can find the manual on line.

Special advice for women of child-bearing age and children under 15

Women of child-bearing age and children under 15 are more sensitive to the effects of contaminants found in some sport fish. The Guide to Eating Ontario Sport Fish provides more stringent advice for this group (sensitive population).

Wilkes-Barre to Quรฉbec City .. 11 hours. Best fishing is in the Saguenay, so add on another 3 hours.
