I rarely boondock, and need new batteries. My marine deep cells are shot, and I am wondering if I could get by with only one 12 Volt, Group 27, or should I get 2 6V golf cart batteries. I almost never boondock, so dont need much power. Too many other items to repair right now, and dont want to spend hundreds if I dont have to. Thanks for the replies.

Thanks all, I have decided that I will probably just do one 12V for now. Too many other items to fix, ie; ride height control valve leading, ladder just broke Sunday, roof leak, Drivers side mirror coming off due to a long ago window leak, Wife wants new wood floor and carpet inside, refinishing all bright gold hardware to a brushed nickel, replacing all bright gold lighting fixtures with brushed nickel LED's, Oil change, fuel filter change, etc..........

Going on over a year now on one 12vdc deep cycle marine battery from Auto Zone. No problems at all and everything seems to be working as designed. And no, we don't boondock either.

If you NEVER boondock a MARIN/deep cell might be ok.. But you said RARLEY not Never.

I would stick with GC-2 which are TRUE DEEP CYCLE (The six volt batteries) Get 'em at Sam's club if you have a membership.. not that pricy.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

One 12 volter should be fine. but please compare two 6 volters with 2 12 volters for fairness.

A GP27 105AH 12VDC DEEP CYCLE BATTERY will probably cost you around $140 plus core verses two 220Ah DEEP CYCLE 6V GOLF CART BATTERIES for $90 each ($180) plus cores is a pretty good money deal for double the capacity. The GOLF CART batteries will have the much thicker cells plates giving you lots of durability...

Just something to think about...

Single 12 is fine. May even keep you in 12 volts one night if you conserve.

Thanks for the speedy replies. I will only get one new 12 Volt most likely.

I rarely boondock either. I have had only one 12 volt battery since I bought my trailer in 04. I just replaced it this year. I wanted to do 2 - 6volts but money was tight so just replaced it with another 12 volt last month. I carry a honda 2000 for the times I do boondock. I think you can get by with one also.

Hi Kevin,

If you do not camp without services any battery will work.

I have cut short my boondocking days to almost nothing. I went to a single 12v verses 2- 6v and do not miss them.
