If it were me driving that vehicle I would just finish my trip as long as the oil level was between the minimum and maximum on the dip stick. The oil will always look black just after service which is normal for diesels.Dont forget that you are, hopefully, using synthetic oil which requires less service and much later.

He has to use 229.51 MB spec fully synthetic 5w-40 oil to keep the warranty good. It's a low ash oil that helps protect the DPF filter.
It's a BIG no-no if anything else is used.

Book, I wouldn't worry about it till you get home, but do it asap. I bet you are over 2yrs on your oil too. That's not good

Yes. I know. I keep a quart(litre here) of 5w40 in the RV because I add 1/2 a quart every about 7000 miles. I dont know about others but my engine would probably complain if I went 12000 miles without an oil change and, keeping oil level just under full which is where I like to keep mine. Some people let oil level drop to nearly the add line. So your point is valid on several counts.

I think I would read my owner's manual for the chassis and do whatever the manufacturer says.

Having said that, using your figures, it will be only 1,250 miles until the service. I doubt that little mileage will impact anything.
