Adding Step Switch / Need Wiring Diagram for Fleetwood

My 2013 Fleetwood Jamboree 25k has a kwikee fold out step, but it (oddly) doesn't appear to have a disable switch, like I've seen in pretty much every other rig. The switch is what you would turn the step off with when you are parked somewhere so it isn't going in and out every time you exit / enter the coach, you'd just put the step out then turn the switch off.

Anyhooo .. it looks like the white wire on the 4 pin harness is where the switch goes, but Fleetwood doesn't appear to have carried the 12v down to the header that I need for that switch I'm going to install.

TL,DR does anybody know if Fleetwood gives out wiring diagrams for these things ? The set of books I have from Fleetwood is just generic RV info, nothing specific to this model.

Okay, now I am really confused. You installed a wire from a 12v source to a switch and them to the white wire and you are calling it a disconnect switch. While writing this I suddenly figured out what you are trying to do. I think.

You have 12vdc to one side of the switch, if the switch is closed, the step goes in and out when the magnetic door switch is opened and closed. When the switch is open the step stays out.

If this is correct, what you have is a By Pass switch. If you look at the wiring diagram for your steps there is no Disable Switch there is a By Pass switch.

Your terminology had me going for awhile. I too contacted Fleetwood way back in 1998 and got the wiring diagrams but in my opinion they were very vague, they did not specify the exact location of connections, just how the wires were run.

So congratulations, you have it working the way you want and that is the purpose of mods.

Got the job done, had to patch over 12v to that line but it's all good.

Very happy with Fleetwood Inc, they emailed me a wiring diagram for the coach really fast. There was an existing (but unused) connect point and fuse for the step disable switch.

Good service.

My description regarding where the power comes from was pretty vague and not definitive at all. The actual connection point can and did change from installer to installer and from year to year and manufacturer to manufacturer.

Unless one of the fuses blows, looking for the connecting point may be just an exercise in tracing wires and not too important. My Bounder has them clearly marked, the yellow wire and it's fuse are located under the dash the red wire and its fuse were connected directly to the positive terminal of the house battery. That's not much help is it.

I'm not sure which model Kwikee step you have and which Parent Co. manufactured them. I would bet if you have a Kwikee step by Kwikee, that switch is unnecessary for the function you're asking about, If it is a Kwikee by Power Gear, it should be the same. I don't know anything about the Kwikee by Lippert.

If your steps are installed properly and we have to start there, no switch is necessary unless you, like me store you RV between trips with the steps up. If you read the normal operating sequences of your steps, there is what is called "last out feature". When you stop, turn off the ignition and open your door, the steps should extend and STAY extended even when you shut the door.

If your steps do not work in the manner described in the Installation and Operation Manual, follow the troubleshooting guide to find your problem. Here is a link for Manual#888 look at Figures 10 and 11. #10 is with the override switch and #11 is without a override switch.

Now for your question regarding how the power is supplied, power comes from two sources, your coach batteries and your chassis battery. Only some long lost engineering spec tells the actual pick up point for the power. Figure out how your steps are wired, like Fig. 10 or 11 that is important in functioning and trouble shooting.

Just remember that the override switch "Bypasses the controller" it makes the steps extend and retract every time the door is opened or closed. Refer to the paragraph above regarding the "Last Out Function".

The power switch goes from the RED wire on your Kwikee Step wiring harness to the WHITE wire on the same harness. You only need an ON/OFF switch, and a fuse, no bigger than 8 amps. You don't hook to your vehicle's wiring at all.

I got that part done, what I need is the wiring in the coach to see where the supply is sourced, because Fleetwood didn't make the 12v switch line live.

You can find the wiring diagram for Kwikee steps on Google search.
