Trying to get our toad back to Michigan from TX. Any suggestions? Perhaps delivery drivers who haul campers from Elkhart?

Just looking for advice.

Thx

I've used DAS and others (whom I won't name). One thing I learned is that you can drive it a few miles to one of their lots where they'll store it while it waits for a truck with space to come by headed that direction. The way I understand it, these trucks pick up vehicles and drop that other stations along the way where another truck picks it up until it gets close to the destination. Each truck gets a cost for each mile it's hauled.

They will come by and pick it up from your house if you're not too far off their path. We were 25 minutes from the highway, and nobody would touch us. We finally took it down to the lot which was located next to the highway, and it was picked up within days.

Seems relevant to me to inquire whether the car is driveable so as to know what options exist.

Plenty of options out there, but I'd steer clear of drive away services. That's just asking for trouble in my opinion. I'd rather pay a bit more and keep the miles off it. I've used A1 Auto Transport Inc twice & been pretty happy with them. Like I said, it's not cheap, but I'd be hesitant about having a stranger drive it for you.

OP here:
Thx for all the advice. Yes, I just need to get the toad home, and no, I really don't want to drive it all the way back there when we just got this far south.

I don't have a super critical time line, but I'd hate to have to stick in one place waiting for a pick up.

I'll take all the advice here... way more than I would have come up with since I've never shipped a vehicle before... and see what comes up.

Thx as always

I knew the Class A forum would be the place since we all (well most) tow something.

Are you near a military base? Lots of them in Texas. Many military bases have services (used to be a manual list, now I assume it's automated) where people needing to drive someplace get matched up with people needing to move a car someplace. My Bro-in-law got transferred from California to SC many years ago. He was up there in rank and didn't have the time to drive the cars back. So they put their name on the list and got matched up with a couple of enlisted types who wanted a cheap way to get to the east coast. My bro-in-law paid for the gas and the enlisted guys drove the cars back. Worked out for everybody.

Well I too wonder why you are in MI and your towed in TX.

Assuming one of the following:

1: You had to tow something OTHER than the car back to MI with the motor home.
2: Motor Home damaged beyond repair and you returned to MI via plane, train or bus.
3: Some other good reason.

Auto Driveway is option one.. option 2 (Which is what I suggest this time of year) is return to TX with motor home, Wait for warmer weather and tow it back.

But seriously, Option 2 is mostly a joke. Cause if you could do that, you'd be doing it.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

Prices will vary depending on if you want the vehicle delivered at a SET time or if you are flexible on a delivery date.

Personally, I don't think the OP's question was out of line...wrong forum perhaps..but not out of line. My experience has been, and I've shipped a lot of vehicles, is when you inquire about shipping you will get lots of bids...your mail box will be full and repetitive. Lots of these companies bad mouth each other to no end too. Prices will be all over the board as well. This makes it really hard to choose a carrier.

IMHO, the OP has a personal reason for wanting to ship his car home. It's none of my business why...:S If you've shipped a car and were happy with the shipper, tell him so...if you weren't happy, be sure to tell him why. Finally, if you've never shipped a car or dealt with a shipper, skip this post and read the next one....enjoy your day.....:B....Dennis

Boy I think we have sunk to an all time low with comments like that. But then consider the source. RV'ers who do not even tow a toad. ๐Ÿ˜ž

To the OP:

Believe it not I found the most qualified and reasonably priced transports under the horse section classified.

These people go north to south and south to north monthly and also offer TT hauling and car transport. they are bonded and insured and IMHO as honest as the day is long. Google horse transport in both your pick up and destination area.

I use them to haul horses for me as do many and we consider that cargo VERY precious. These people get the job done are experienced and they charge a LOT less than the commercial car carriers because they are going that way anyway. Texas and Florida being their main runs.

I used them to move my toad from up north to the south. !/8 the price of what the car commercial car carriers wanted AND they gave me an arrival date. Most of the commercial carriers could not.

Hope you find what you need.

Can't you drive it there?

The OP has nothing better to do than troll on here as cabin fever...OOOPs he's in TX not MI with plenty of things to do. Maybe he bought a boat and it's going back behind the MH. Why do you have to question his reasons?:S OK, Sprink you are the one with cabin fever in MN with nothing better to do.
X2 on Uship. Another possibility is finding a Copart auto salvage yard and ask then about auto transport to MI.

Can't I ask a question, by the time you ask and check prices on shipping you could be half way there, drive it there and fly back. How do I know he has plenty of things to do?

Who says I have cabin fever, I am in Minnesota because I like it here. Beleive it or not some people like winter.
