Need an option for when in the trees. I have directv. Can both find the satellites automatically? I had a vucube that required me to find the satellite and not fond of that. I assume I can use it with one of my directv receivers. I know it does not provide HD. Which one do you prefer or recommend?

Hi,

I have Dish TV and use the vuCube and love it. I don't subscribe to HD so don't use Sat 129 but it is obtainable with VuCube and if you are having problems contact King Controls.

When using the Cube make sure you use the cable that came with unit as that must supply power as well as signal.

Good Luck!

This is the one that I would suggest. It is smaller in diameter then the original Carry out

I bought a King Flex, the "Super Tailgater". It receives DirecTV SD, Dish SD and HD and Bell. Another difference is the Flex has a connection for a second TV. Last month we switched from DirecTV to Dish at the house. I negotiated to get two ViP211k receivers directly from Dish (not through a reseller) for $49 each. It costs $7 a month for service per ViP211. For me the difference is the ability to have HD in the RV and not to struggle manually aiming the DirecTV dish for HD. We have found the picture quality from Dish to be noticeably better at home on the big TV. My wife, not a video expert, made that observation. Also, the Hopper with Sling is fantastic! I loved the DirecTV Genie and thought it was tops but, boy, was I wrong. In the RV I was able to connect the over the air antenna to one of the receivers so I can integrate the OTA locals into the Dish program guide. For $45 Dish will unlock the DVR capabilities of the ViP211 so you can add an externally powered hard drive to record your favorite programs.
Both DirecTV and Dish have pros and cons but if you are like me and want HD in the RV at the easiest, lowest cost, Dish is it.

Winegard Pathfinder X-2 has a larger reflector, more gain (Stronger signal) and all the features of the ones you suggested plus more.

It is, however, larger.

The Pathway X2 only works with Dish, John. The OP has Direct.

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

I use the carryout. It came setup for Direct TV. Works great.I made an adapter plate with a tube welded on it and use an old Direct
TV tripod to mount the whole thing. In heavily treed areas I may have to move it around to find a path thru the trees to the Satellite. Once it is sighted in use some large stakes that look like large nails to hold it in place in case of wind. Works at home as well when the house mounted unit gets snowed in.

We have the Winegard TRAV'LER Dish 1000 on our coach and take the Carryout with use all the time because sometimes you get stuck in a bad spot. I take an extra 50' cable for power and one for coax, you just never know. We had Direct TV about 5 years ago switched to Dish, just removed the dome and made the switch. They may still come setup for Direct TV.

My Carryout requires a separate cable for 12V power. Which is a minor hassle.

Do the new ones use the coax for power?

We have carryout and it couldn't be easier. It locks on automatically. It can be used for both Dish and Direct TV. Tailgator is only for Dish and is a few $$ cheaper.

The TailGator is for dish only. Extreamly simple to operate and locate a signal but it does not work with Direct TV

I like my Carryout. It seems to be more stable then the Tailgator.
Mine can be converted to Dish or Direct TV. This would be a big deal if you ever want to change.
We have Direct TV.
I didn't care for my Carryout sitting directly on the ground so I bought the short tripod.
