Covered versus Outside Storage Cost

We're fairly new to RV'ing and have been comparing storage lots in our area as our neighborhood doesn't allow for RV/boat storage. Any suggestions on what premium we should expect to pay for a covered storage lot when compared to an outside storage lot? Also, is the additional premium worth the supposed reduction in cleaning costs, roof maintenance, etc?

I can get outdoor storage for $50 a month, or complete indoor storage for $325 a month. I currently have my RV in my own warehouse so I don't pay for storage. But if I have to pay, I'd like to keep it indoors. But we're talking $275 a month more. That's $3,300 more per year. Every three years that's almost $10,000. You can get a really nice full body paint job for $15,000. So you could keep it outside and every five years get a brand new full body paint job and reseal everything for about the same price as keeping it inside. Realistically if you kept it outside, you could repaint every 10 years. Just something to think about.

The sun is way worse for a motorhome than the rain.

$200 a month for an uncovered space??? Holy cow! Even in California I can find uncovered storage for less than $50 a month. I can get indoor storage in my own unit with a automatic door opener and power in the unit, for $325 a month.

A few miles out of town saves a lot. I store in a covered but not enclosed building. 14 Ft by 40 Ft space is $100 a month. It's 18 miles from my house. Closer in the same type spaces were $150 to $200. A space in a fully enclosed bldg runs $350 to $500 per month. If I store outside with a good cover, I can do $40 per month.

In my book covered storage is absolutely worth the up charge. It's not just about keeping the rain off the RV. Our neck of the woods the son does a job on the RV as well.

Here in Northwest Montana, outside fenced storage for my trailer is $30 per month and I have found indoor storage for $100 per month. I park it on a friends lot for free and use a quality cover in the winter.

I can't find covered storage so I park uncovered at Public Storage for 50 a month. I can't believe storage facility owners are not tapping into the covered RV market.

In the Kansas City area I am paying $60 for an outside uncovered spot. A storage spot in one of the climate controlled caves is $200+ for our 40 footer.

really the simplest way is to just start calling around. you may want to go further than the Atlanta area too. we pay $17 a month for storage for our 40 ft. 5th trailer but it is 150 miles away. cheaper than $125+ a month and we go that way anyway when it is stored.

in versus out, it is just your preference.

rrv,s of all size are prone to roof leaks ,keep it dry as possible a cloth cover helps in out side storage. some day you might want to up grade the better condition you keep your rv the more its worth in the future.
