Five Star Tuning Mod

I have a 2007 Fleetwood Terra LX 34N motorhome with the 3 valve V10 engine. I am generally towing a Colorado pickup, traveling over western U.S. I do not use the Tow/Haul feature and do not use Cruise Control. I will generally keep the speed around 60 to 62 mph. The motorhome averages 7 to 7.5 mpg. My question is "What improvements, considering my driving habits, should I expect after installing the 5 Star mod and which mod would I get, towing or economy?"

I really like the tuner on my 2011.

I love using cruise control and was tired of the downshifting every time I could see slight incline in the distance. The tuner fixed that and is about 80% better than stock. I also noticed a slight increase in power. I didn't notice any improvement in mileage however I wasn't looking for or expecting an improvement there. I had read enough about the tuner to know that while I might get some improvement that alone was not worth the cost.

For me it was about shifting and power improvements.

I do use tow/haul when towing AND when I want more breaking help in mountains and traffic. Going up and down the Rockies it was used almost 100% of the time and worked great.

While i don't have a class A i do have an 02 with the 4speed auto. The 5star tune worked as advertised. My setup is at 17k lbs combined. Stock the X shifted short, it always seemed like it could go more rpm which i was doing manually. I have the 3 tunes eco. Towing and power. The towing tune works great, i got the tuner just for the better shift strategy. My towing mileage did go up slightly about .5 mpg. Everything on Mikes website is true he does not candy coat anything. Excellent customer service. If there is something you don't like about a particular part of the tune just call or email and he will change it and send you a new tune.

I highly recomend them!

I installed 5 star tune and scangague II 300 miles ago on my 2000 Holiday Rambler 35 BPD F53 V10 class A Towing a 2010 Jeep Wrangler. We left FT Lauderdale FL and took route 27 to Ocala FL. I noticed less downshifting on slight up hills, better throttle response, and crisper shifts. According to my scangague II I average 8.3 mpg on this trip. We are taking 5 weeks to get to Santa Cruz CA I will keep reporting on my progress

So for 5 star tune was worth the dollars for 2 reasons customer service and change in downshifting on small grades.

Just for information, the computer will not prevent over revving the engine when going down hill. You can exceed the design RPM going down hill, the computer will shut off fuel and spark, but the engine can still over rev going down hill.

The only advantage is that the tranny doesn.t downshift at every slight grade, which was very annoying.

Thanks for the input Fiesta. I'm not sure what you mean by "shifts better", but I really don't have that big a problem with acceleration or shifting. That's why I was asking the question. Exactly what benefits would be in it for me. I'm not looking just to spend money, but I don't want to be overlooking anything either. I guess the other thing that affects my decision is we only put about 10k miles a year on the coach, mostly driving from Tx to Oregon and back.

I have a '11 Bounder with the 362hp V10. For the first 3500 miles I got 8.05 MPG pulling a 800# motorcycle on a light trailer in widely varying conditions. Then I installed a SCT Tuner from 5 Star. Still 8.0 RV now has better acceleration at low speeds, maybe more above 40 mph. It does shift better, except now in hills it does not want to shift out of OD soon enough so I lose a lot of speed unless I really gas it. Tow/Haul uneffected. I too do not like the high RPM's down steep slopes with Tow/Haul. I'm going to carefully try dropping it down 1 gear at a time manually, we traditionally practiced prior.

With an 07 almost certainly NO, you are going to run 6.5-8.5 as a range and avg between 7-7.5 no matter what. 06 got the big improvements and even Banks told me the gains are very small on 06 and newer than compared to 1st generation V10's

"That v-10 is built to rev high." Not only that you can't over reve it as it has a built in reve limiter. The person who blew up an engine going down hill didnโ€™t use proper procedure.
