LONG POST

Just before this problem started to happen we lost our fuel pump. We were on a bridge in the central Keys. Took 5+ hours for a tow truck to come from Miami. He spent over 4 hours hammering and banging under the RV, on the side of the road in the dark, trying to drop the drive shaft. He finally said he had to put it back up because he couldn't get it totally down.
Towed us at a "hardly moving" speed up to Key Largo (police even pulled him over for going too slow):(
Had pump replaced.

Went back to Marathon, turned into drive of campground, RV died....we were stuck again...pump was defective.

Good Sam got an extremely large tow truck to come from Key West...long story short...he towed it (not lowering the shaft as it was only going about quarter of a mile into the campground) then he lowered it...but not enough....over $10,000 damage. (After a long battle, their insurance paid it all.)

Meanwhile, the first mechanic came, dropped the drive shaft, towed it to Key Largo. Replaced fuel pump.

We had all accident repairs done and headed for Canada...that is when the RV started this strange behaviour. We assumed it was the brakes.
So,we had the brakes done. But on our way back to Florida now we have the same problem (as I explained in first post).

We dislike driving at night, but we cannot take a chance during the day of getting in traffic stop and go. If we had known the problem was still with us, we would not have left for Florida.

After this long post, we are wondering if anyone thinks, or has an explanation for the problem being because of the drive shaft not being lowered before towing.

Any thoughts would be appreciated as we just have to get this fixed asap.

Is your ABS trouble light on? If it is, the ECM will refuse to engage overdrive.

We just escaped having the AutoPark feature because our left GM as a 14,800 rated chassis so I do not know if the parking brake can drag or where it is a total lock down.

Even though there is no engine check light on, go buy an O'reilly or Autozone parts store and have the computer checked for codes.
Your RPM and mileage doesn't appear to be effected by hanging brakes. Only other brake hanging could be parking brake.
Do you know if you have a parking brake in your drums or on the driveline?

Think the parking brake is somehow connected to the transmission??
when had transmission rebuilt 2 years ago, seem to remember mechanic saying that.

Sounds like your brakes are hanging up to the point that the ECM will not allow the transmission to go into overdrive.
What kind of RPMs are showing? Are you using lots of fuel?
Does your rig have drum or disc brakes on the rear?
Were the calipers replaced?
What about the rubber hoses? They could be collapsed causing the fluid not to return to master cylinder.

average 2270 @ 65mph
seems good fuel
drum
calipers, rubber hoses replaced
