House Water Pump Problem

The water pump keeps running after all faucets are turned off. The only way to turn it off is to turn off the pump switch. I just got the coach back from the shop where the technician did a leak test and the "system held pressure for 18 minutes at 70 psi. No leaks detected." Anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong?

I had this problem and it was a ruptured diaphragm in the pump head. Depending on the pump it should be a simple fix. Replacement pumps are not that expensive which is the route I had to take.

I thought I would add a post mortem to this post. Just a few days after the pump had started working properly it malfunctioned again i.e. it continued to run after the faucets were shut off. I made an appointment to take the coach in for the warranty repair. The night before we were to take it in THE PUMP MAGICALLY WORKED AGAIN. The service center talked to Fleetwood who promised to extend the warranty period on the pump.

Some pumps have an internal bypass pressure switch and discharge pressure switch. If the bypass setting is lower than the discharge setting, the pump will continuously run because it never reaches discharge pressure setting. Check your pump model and manual to see what you have and how to set the pressures.

There is a leak somewhere period. If the pump can't reach complete pressure in the lines it keeps running and water is coming out somewhere. All the times mine kept running it was never the pump but always something open or leaking.

Outside hose hook up valve is usually the culprit. You can sometimes push it in with your finger to seat it but that usually means it needs to be replaced.

Try opening your faucet and let it run for 5 full minutes THEN shut it off.

I checked the water by-pass valve and it was set to the proper normal position. I turned it off and then back to the normal position. I tried the water pump and it worked properly i.e. it shut off when I turned the faucets off. You folks came through again! Thank you all. I forgot to add that before I took your suggestion I had called Fleetwood. I described the problem to the tech who said that if no leak had been found then the only thing it could be was a failed water pump.

After checking that fill valve is Closed......whack on head of pump (pressure switch) with handle of screw driver and see if it is stuck close.

No leaks, fill valve closed, no air in system (hot/cold) then pump pressure switch

When you open a faucet does water flow at good pressure?
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Check water pressure if you don't see any leaks.
Pressure switches and check valves do go bad.
Did it work OK when you check it at the shop?

Not sure if you can fill your fresh watyer tank from city connection or not but if you can Make sure its not set too tank fill. If the pump continues to run its not building pressure.

On some coaches, the pump will continue to run if you have the fill valve set to shore water instead of water from your water tank.
