How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I'm new here, and curious.

How many of us in Class C own Dodge B300 incomplete
cab/chassis based RV's? I know two others- Steve aka
Ripsaw, with a 1977 Brougham, and Leroy aka 1978_Dodge
_Delta who owns a 440V8 powered sharp looking 1978
Delta RV. I would like to ask, and offer, help, idea
swapping and comparing notes on our particular RV's
which are based on the Dodge B300 van chassis.

Yeah, I know. These are low tech, podgy old RV's that
would be considered "entry level" for folks like me,
but I have a deep and abiding respect for the quality
of these old "monsters of the open road". And anyone
wanting to pick brains, joke about, share notes or just
brag about our old A- Dodge-io's are certainly welcome
to PM or email me. Between all of us we can form a real
good support group, and help each other with problems
we know we'll encounter with an older vehicle.

Sure. I'd love a new RV. But I'd rather have an older
one already paid for, and a lotta great memories. Call
me frugal, an old hippie, or whatever you will. I'm proud
of my old land yacht.

Mopar Madness Manifest in the flesh,

Mark aka White Knight

P.S. Mine's a '72. Is there an older one out there someone's
motorvating in? Maybe even a Travco? W/K

Really nice looking rig RVnoob, great price too if you don't have to fix much.

I thought it was a good buy. Depending on how much I find wrong with it. But I think I did a very good job on it. Only costed me $1500.00.

RVnoob,

That's one great looking rig!! Here's hoping there
won't be much to do to make it very dependable.

Ok, hopefully this will work. If I should change or need to adjust something on this feel free to let me know.

These are the photos of my first ever rv/camper. Been camping at the NASCAR races in Charlotte, NC for 11 yrs now, using a tent and tarps for 10 years and finally gave in.

If anyone can help me with anything I need to know, like how to use/repair anything on it I would be greatly appreciative.

If this thread were a menu item it would be the most obscenely

For all good sense and advice there must be equal parts of idiocy

Gee, methinks that was me....actually, I think it was PINK Chanel work boots!!!???

Not pink, it was the black lambskin Chanel work boots with the little brass CC in the heel I wanted so badly 2 years ago. Hindsight says I should have bought them when I could afford them. Because there is no Chanel in my future, now.

It's my daughter had pink work boots. Then you guys all laughed at my leopard fur Timberlands.

Ohhhh, yeah. I remember now. They wanted like $200 for them, didn't they?

And I second the advice to go to your local welding shop to repair/replace the valves. They're a ton cheaper than your local RV or propane place. Vertical or horizontal tank, it makes no difference.

No. Look for leaks.

Take it to a high-pressure carwash, that's how.
Buy some Eternabond tape (NOT from Wal-Mart!) and get at it...
Search this thread for how to clean off old putty and put on new Eternabond.
Seal the coach, then repair drivetrain, then the propane system including fridge. Then water and holding tanks. Then the interior electric and genny.
Trust us on this --Keep the water out.

I just loooove how Trishie just cuts to the chase on stuff!

I don't think a list of priorities could be stated more succinctly.
It also holds to another parameter- cost. These are the more spendy items when working on a rig.

I have already checked it over for leaks and the drivetrain, I am a auto mechanic by profession, so I am not to worried about that.

The propane system is something I dont want to take any chances on so I am taking the rv to a dealer to have it checked out. It leaks at the opening valve on the tank (tank is half full). I dont want to try and use anything with gas until I feel comfortable with it.

The tanks have been replaced so I know they are good, not sure about the water pump though.

I have pictures of it, I just dont know how to change the size of them to be able to post them. Not real computer literate.

Propane is not hard. And the dealer will do obscene things to your wallet.

If they are leaking now, better get them outside fast. Drop them off at the closest welding supply, they can fix your valves for 1/3 what an RV dealer would charge.

Vertical tanks, right? Okay, then. Depending on age, you may have to replace the tanks, period. As for stove /fridge propane, take the lines off (backwards, this is propane) and blow them out with your compressor.
You're a mechanic, I know you've got a compressor.

Water pump --look for a bad ground first, water damage /corrosion second.

Leeann is computer literate. Thank god...

Wow, I didnt realize how stupid I am about computers, lol. I dont have a clue as to how to post pictures. I will figure that out later, rv is a little more important for me now.

I only have 4 weeks to get it liveable for a weekend at the races.

Thanks for everyones help, I will try to keep an eye on this forum and post my progress as I get things going.

I just want to get the electrical system working to start with then work on the other luxury things after.

Thanks for all the links, should get me started.

RVnoob

Sounds like you've got a good start. Everything drivetrain is 1 ton +,
so it is a bit simpler. Propane is really another thang- I'm cool with all the plumbing south of the tank, but prefer a propane company to check out valves and tank related issues. The genset was the hardest issue for me, but my Onan 4.0 CCK boatanchor posed few difficulties other than cleaning connections and doing some long-overdue maintenance. The rest of electrical was pretty much straightforward. My next rig will get LED marker/clearance/turn lamps as well as their interior replacements where it'll work OK.

Have fun!
