Lost reverse for a moment, F53 -V 10 5 speed

I lost reverse backing into a tight camping site. Backed in very slow as much as I could, pulled up to go strait back and no reverse. It would go into "R" but would not go back or rev up on gas peddle. I put it in park, shut off, restart eng. and every thing went. Had no problem the next day doing the same at next CG. ? has anyone had this happen. MH is 2014 Cochman.

Sounds to me like a little "hiccup" that was taken care of by shutting down and restarting. If it doesn't happen again anytime soon, I wouldn't worry about it.

Odd that the ECM didn't shut off fuel to the engine. Since it didn't my guess is that it went into an unstable state and rebooted upon start up (as suggested by fortytwo above). Maybe ask ford if there's a software update available. You may not be running the latest version. If it's not the software I would probably disconnect the battery for awhile and then reconnect it as a reset.

The closest thing I've experienced to this is when a faulty crankshaft sensor told the module the engine wasn't turning and it shut down fuel and everything else.

Sounds like your ECM (engine control module) got confused and the computer program wasn't robust enough to reset without turning off the engine. Strange things can happen when the ECM gets bad info. I had a 2000 that had one of it's 7 ground wires go inconsistent. My scan gauge wouldn't identify it, but a garages big diagnostic tool determined the engine thought it was at 20mph in 2nd gear when I started out from a stop. Made from so pretty erratic cockpit readings, and bumpy starts. When it first started I could stop the engine and restart and it would go away for months. Later (several years) it got too consistent to ignore.

Shutting down and restarting reset the ECM. If it doesn't happen again I would ignore it.

Thanks for info. no ck eng. light, or I would have connected my scanner, I moved the shift lever several times but nothing also the throttle would not work when I steped on the gas. after turning of the ign. in park and re starting all was fine. I could scan for codes but I don't think there would be any without a light. I'll check with ford, see if they know any thing about this. Thanks again

This would be my suspicion too. If the shift indicator and the range sensor on the transmission don't agree, it defaults to N. It's not common, but sometimes you hit just the wrong spot and that can happen.

Older Ford but had to replace a torque converter shortly after encountering similar condition.

Make sure the fluid is at the correct level.

If the fluid is correct then it maybe what bullydog suggested above.

Check for a recall on your coach. I remember having to go to a Ford dealer on our 2012 for recall issued due to the transmission shifter cable.

Sounds like the computer and the linkage got out of sync...If you don't have a check engine light, I'd let it go...if it happens again, take note of the situation and get it to a Ford Dealer to see if there are any codes...You may have not been fully in reverse...just a guess but as long as it's OK now.
