Lubegard additive for AT to prolong life

A friend recently had a shuddering issue with his 2007 Expedition that has the same trans as my 2008 Itasca w/Ford V10.

I am very suspicious of the value of any additive but my online research shows very positive reviews for this, even many AT rebuilders and dealers swear by it.

My friend had his problem trans serviced and the rebuilder said Lubegard is the only additive he'd use and the tranny looked fine. It was added and the problem is gone.

I'm now thinking about adding it to my AT (55k miles, never serviced). Ever since new, it's taken a longtime shifting out of first when cold, and that has gotten worse.

Any members had positive or negative experiences with Lubegard Platinum?

It's supposed to help the trans run cooler, shift smoother, possibly help mileage, prevent shudder (jump tall buildings with a single bound?)

Thanks for any feedback

What does it say for extreme conditions?

Lubegard is a great product and your transmission will thank you!

Be sure to do all the required maintenance first and then ad the Lubegard. It is great for transmissions!

RE: shuddering. Mine is not shuddering, my friends similar trans was and the additive helped stop it. Apparently the friction material in lockup converters can need help as it ages.

RE: recommended fluid change. My Ford manual says change at 60k (30k for ones with external filter) so I'll soon remove the pan, change the filter and install fresh Mercon SP.

I was simply asking if anyone had experience with Lubegard Platinum

RE: not flushing trans, totally agree

As I mentioned, I am almost always against using additive but in some cases it makes sense. For example if you have an older flat tappet motor, I'd strongly recommend a ZDDP additive or oil that states a high level of ZDDP.

At 55,000 miles you're 5k miles away from the second recommended fluid change. Maybe catching up on the recommended maintenance would be a better first attempt to correct a slow shift. A driveway drain and fill is pretty easy. You Tube Video

When everything is working properly, your AT won't shudder. The fact that it does should tell you something.

Hint: It's NOT telling you that it needs a miracle in a can.

Start with regular maintenance using the correct fluid.

Slushboxes are the most neglected thing on any vehicle. Having said that, regular maintenance is key and no additives unless specifically recommended by the OEM.

Finally, never get a slushbox flushed in lieu of regular maintenance. Flushing has screwed up more slkushboxes than it helped.

Doesn't Ford recommend against any additives?
