MD to FL waystop suggestions

Heading this week from MD to Santa Rosa Beach FL via I81/77/85. Total trip is about 14-15 hrs +/-. Looking for an overnight about halfway in the 7-9 hr time slot which puts us South of Charlotte, but North of Atlanta (Greenville Area). Anyone have any suggestions for an overnight? I usually like to push a little longer the first day to arrive at a decent time on the second day. So somehwere between Greenville and Atlanta. I'll do some poking around but if anyone has a decent overnight, close to the road, cheap but yet a bit shielded from highway noise that would be appreciated.

We stay there in Cumming whenever we can, but it's not exactly on their route unless they wanted to cut through Gainesville to go south on I-400.

For us, 7-9 hrs is way too far in one day. So we usually stop in Mt Airy at Mayberry CG just a few exits off I-77 after crossing into NC from VA. Or is we push it, we stop at the KOA in Statesville, just south of I-40.

Traffic is always changing so you never know if you'll get stuck for minutes or hours once you get on I-85 in SC.

That is a tough area sometimes to find a decent and convenient place. Be aware this is spring break week for many north Ga school systems so planning ahead is good! Be aware some of those COE parks are a challenge for larger rigs. I think there's an RV park in the Lake Norman area.

There are a couple of federal COE campgrounds and a nice GA state park (Red Top Mountain) there. This is off I-75.

If coming down I-85, there are COE parks on Lake Lanier north of Atlanta.

Sounds like you might be looking to stop further north than these, though. Between Greenville and Atlanta is Lake Hartwell which should have some COE campgrounds but I've never stayed at any there.

I stopped in the last trip to wait out snow at South of the Border. It was cheesy but fun. Used to stop there a long time ago on family trips and if anything it is more of a tourist trap. It is about 30 bucks for a full hookup 30 amp pull thru. You might want to go further but traffic might affect that too. That is if you go down 95. Check the traffic as 81 is dealing with a lot of rain today and traffic sucks. Lots of accidents too

AS a follow up I am taking the old school approach on this trip. Usually we'll take a laptop, tablets etc and figure it out on the way. But for once we've decided to leave all that technology behind (sans cell phone for emergencies) and plan the trip before we take off. It's amazing how much planning you don't have to do when you have technology along.
