Michelin LTX M/S2's - good or bad?

I need to replace my 7 year old tires on my Class C 21 QB (tires only have 36,000 km - 22,000 miles) and the best value deal seems to be at Costco for the Michelin M/S2's. Only problem is that I would have to order them in and it might take a while to get here. Other local tire dealers have less expensive options but they are not tires that I have heard of before - anybody have any experience with Wild Country XRT3's or Cooper Starfire SF510's or Runway HT2's?

Anyway, I've been checking reviews for the M/S2's on Tirerack.com and 1010tires.com and it seems some people love them - quiet, smooth, comfortable, good traction in dry, wet and snow/ice, decent off road - while others hate them - noisy, harsh ride, poor traction, useless in snow and off road. The only thing most people agree on is that they last a long time, but I'm pretty sure that I will never wear them out before the 7 year window comes around again.

So I'm sure that there are many of you who have the M/S2's on loaded trucks and motor homes. What do you think? Are you happy with them?Would you pay the pretty significant premium for Michelins if you were buying today? Any other tires I should be looking at?

I'll be using them mostly for highway, but some gravel and dirt back roads. Hopefully won't be driving in snow but mountain passes around here can get snow almost anytime.

Thanks for all comments.

After wearing the General Grabbers that came on my truck in 30,000 miles I went with the LTX's The 70,000 mile warranty convinced me and Sam's club matched Costco's price, which was the lowest I found. So far I like them.

Good to hear these reports. We bought our 2004 MH in 2008 with Michelin LTX tires dated 2005. Sidewall cracking and those dates caused me to replace them with Michelin in early 2012. I quit using tire polish and started using wheel covers. No difficulties with any of those tires. And now I get a free new set. I have bought mostly Michelin tires on our other vehicles since 1974 when there was a big sale on Michelin radials just as I was coming off the gravel after a trip to Yellowknife, NWT desperately needing new tires. Those tires were amazingly smoother and longer gliding than the cheapos I had before. Only one Michelin tire disappointed me over the years, and Costco honoured the warranty.

I don't know if this applies to other Costco tire shops but the one I use is outstanding. I trust the guys there completely. Most recently they were thrilled when they learned the new set of winter tires I bought were my daughter's Christmas present. I haven't bought tires anywhere else for 15 years. So nice not having to think about how good the tires, service, warranty and price are.

Happy with the MS2 on my E-350, same size and load range as the C uses. Had LTX M/S on the C as OEM, was not happy enough with them to buy six new ones, replaced with XPS instead. My C runs heavy, usually near weight limit for rear axle.

I put them on my F-150 back when we were towing a 5,000# TT. When we sold it nearly 3 years and 30,000 miles later they looked and rode like new. Hands down the best tire I have ever owned and the 70,000 mile tread warranty is just icing on the cake.

Our new (to us), 2012 Class C was smack in the middle of the recall so we got 6 new M/S 2's a couple of months ago and once again the ride and performance are amazing. The C fully loaded for cruising weighs 10,050# so after crunching all of the numbers our ideal psi comes in at 55 all around and the ride is smooth and quiet.

A very popular OEM tire from the world's iconic tire manufacturer. All the chatter about the recent recall confirms that Mic stands behind their products. The only time I would shy away from LTX series might be when they need to run at or near max load/max pressure. Your size coach doesn't approach that. Some have said that LTX develops sidewall checkering sooner than other brands. Again, I think you are safe. Based on your northern latitude, you don't get the sunlight and heat that many of us do. Finally, they're M/S rated, good if you get caught in a light snow... I'd say Get'em.

The recent Michelin recall resulted in 7 new MS2 tires on our 24 ft Class C. We have only driven about 150 miles on them so far, but the ride is noticeably smoother. The old MS tires seemed to feel every stone in the pavement.

I am not a tire expert, but I put 7 of those (I replaced my spare also) on my Class C about 6 months ago. I voted with my pocketbook.
