Need help removing window treatment for blind repair

Hi,

We have day/night shade blind that has come unstrung on one side. We've found someone who can restring it, but we need to be able to remove the blind itself. Of course the RV has a beautiful valance...which we see no way of removing. The valance seems to be screwed AND glued. We can find all kinds of great instructions online for the restringing. Does anyone have any experience with removing the window treatment without damaging anything?

We have an '03 Fleetwood Revolution. The problem window is the big living room window on the passenger side. So far we have to leave the blind to our best window closed, which isn't very pleasant.

Thanks.

Some of ours, the "bobbin" that holds the bottom of the strings attaches to the valance. These, it's easier to remove the entire valence, set it on the table, and work it there.

Others, the "bobbin" screws into the wall. Those, it is often easier to detach the shade from inside the valence.

And I'm at 5:1 for simply broken bobbins. If you catch em before the string disappears, that's an easy fix. And even if you have to pull the shade to sestring it, the couple inches you might lose to a broken bobbin isn't a deal breaker. Get a new bobbin, tie on the existing string, and rock on.

Got it done and now we know for next time, anyway. 🙂

Good job!

Here's a tip. Yes the brackets are attached with screws BUT....

It's tricky and I have to admit I almost went mad trying to figure it out but the shade fits 'inside' that bracket. You have to muscle the shade up and out of that screwed in bracket. Not a lot of room to do it but once you get the angle they come right out.

There is no need to take valance off. T

he shade is held on by 2 metal clips that you need to push on to release it from the clip. Just shine a flashlight under the valance to see where they are so you can push on them to release it.

It's ok, got the strings in, now just have to put the rest back together. Learning experience...:)

We're lucky we have a residence to work in, the extra space is coming in handy.

You could always post a photo to give a visual.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Got the valance off...we found a few more screws and it did come off with a little effort. We were trying not to pull too hard in case it was glued. Turns out the blind repair place couldn't fix it until early next week, and we need it back before then.

So I've popped a couple of Tylenols and we are now in the process of restringing. Trying to figure out the measurement formula even as I write this. :h

It would be very unusual to have anything but the L> brackets...

Have DH look again?

Also, if it just came "unstrung" on one side...
Often the little plastic "Bobbins" that the cords attach to just break
It is not hard to replace / fix / re aTTACH THEM, AND SOMETIMES IT CAN BE DONE WITHOUT REMOCING THE ENTIRE UNIT.

poop, sorry bout the caps...

I've restrung a bunch in a couple different motorhomes, it is not hard to do.

Yours may not be like mine....

My day/night shades has a screw just a few inches from either end. One may be in front of the shade, the other behind. I've seen them both ways.
Remove the two screws holding them up.
Then, there is a clip in the center. You have to twist the shade to unclip it.
Hope this may help.

Beware... With a tinted window, it works for the day, but you can be seen from the outside at night.

I think DH took out the screws on one side to see if there was any give to it and it was still firmly stuck.

(We're considering replacing ALL of the blinds in the RV with simple pull down privacy blinds, since we find we never use the day shades anyway. The tinting in the windows cuts the incoming light sufficiently for our needs. But we're looking for the simplest thing first.).
