Well I'd NEVER would have a diesel pusher. Too expensive, high repair bills, complexity, weight, and 45 other reasons.
2 1/2 weeks ago bought a Fleetwood Discovery on a Freightliner Cummings chassis. Got a great price on a 2015 in Mesa AZ.
The final kicker was 6.5 mpg in a slight headwind and a little uphill on my '11 Bounder V-10. Must have shifted 50 times in 200 miles, and all we were pulling was a motorcycle.
WELL, the Cummings hardly downshifts, looks like it might get 9 mpg, has 3 giant slides, 1 full length, W/D, dishwasher, king memory foam bed, more storage then we will ever use, has 100 other new amenities.
Bought new to hopefully avoid other people's problems.
Now, if it does not break something expensive...

I was camping a couple of weekends ago with some friends. As we were getting ready to leave they noticed I was filling my water tank. Two of them had gas motorhomes. They asked me why I was filling the tank to leave. I told them the extra weight (over 800 pounds) made the ride much smoother in the DP. They asked if the extra weight didn't take away the power. I pointed out how I couldn't even feel it and the MPG never seemed to change. Both of them make sure their tanks are near empty to leave. And I know why. I remember when I had my gas rig with the V-10 I could easily tell how full all the tanks were based on acceleration and even handling. With the DP the only thing that tells me how full the tanks are is how sharp the bumps are when I hit them. The sharper the bumps, the less fluids in the tank. The smoother the ride, the more fluid I have on board. A full diesel tank and a full water tank make for a nice ride.

Some thoughts on a diesel MH:

For every 10,000 mile;
$3584 for 6.5 miles per gallon with gas at $2.33/gl

$3322 for 9 MPG with diesel at $2.99/gl

That is a difference of $0.026 per mile.
Then you have to factor in the extra cost of buying a diesel rig.
To me that means that you have to drive a TON of miles before you breakeven based on MPG only. Then you factor in higher maintenance costs and it gets worse.

So then why buy a diesel?
A: they have great towing ability.
B: The extra torque is important when climbing hills
C: If you want high end, most coach builders have their highest end offerings in diesel coaches
😧 They are very cool!!
E: If you can afford the best why settle for anything less?
F: See D and E

You forgot they are much more comfortable to drive.

Congratulations on your new rig!! You will love it. The ride is almost silent, smooth and handles the wind so well. ENJOY!!!

Fiesta....Congratulations.....Wait until the engine breaks in a little....somewhere around 11K-13K. It will pull a little harder and get even better mileage. Let the Allison do most of the thinking. When you approach steep grades, leave the cruise on and manually drop to 5th about 200 yards before you start to climb. You'll be amazed at how well it will work.

Lastly.....diesels don't accelerate, they gain momentum!
