Does it really matter which brand or model? Is one any better than the other? They all seem to have their problems. We like the floor plan of the Winnebago 42E and the Thor Tuscany 42WX. Any preference or knowledge of these models you can share would be appreciated.

Thanks to all who replied. I am leaning heavily toward the Winnie. Now to find a 2013 at a very good price. So far there are none in Ohio.

Before you make up your mind, do yourself a favor and look at both, drive both and price both. You may be surprised. I love the advice I get on this forum, but no way would I rest a large purchase on feedback alone. And why are you stuck on just the 2 brands? What about FR, Nemar, Tiffin etc? Just about every manufacturer will have a floorplan you want. And EVERY brand has it's share of issues - unfortunately.

I took a loss and traded my 3 month old Thor ACE for a Winnebago Vista. I wasn't happy about loosing money but I was happy to see the ACE go. I guess that gives you an idea of what I think of Thor's quality

The 2014 Tuscany DOES have an all fiberglass roof (for those who care. I've had both and am happy with either).
In reviewing the two coaches looks like Thor has a bigger engine (450 vs 400 HP).
Thor also runs about $20K less than Winnie.
I looked at Winnie before buying my motorhome and was shocked at the poor workmanship. Drawers that hadn't even been sanded, loose or missing trim, wrinkled wallpaper. etc. etc. I had fully expected to buy Winnebago based on what I had read but did a 180 after looking at them carefully. I'm happy with my Thor, like their service (excellent) and believe they provide a lot more value for the money. IMO----YMMV.

Most people will tell you the coach they have has the least issues and is backed the best by the manufactuer, in reality, I doubt they make a coach that doesn't have problems. I have a coach known for quality, yet I have had multiple problems and issues, way beyound what was expected. During warranty period my dealer has been excellent with service, but now warranty is over, so it is yet to see how manufactuer will handle further problems.

I have read mixed reviews on Thor.

As many have said, every brand has it problems........ therefore, support from the manufacturer is essential. I would prefer the Winnebago for that reason.

I think the comaprison to Thor and Winie is sort of an apples to oranges comparison. Each has their merits. Thor is known for it's customer serice. Probably one of the best in the industry. Thor also hits price points no one else seems to be able to beat and huge discounts can be had on Thor units. Winnie is known for it's fit and finish and quality. But don't expect to get a deal. You pay for that. In the few deals I have tried to negotiate on Winnies they just don't budge much on price and subsequently I ended up with Thor. Winnie has sort of an aloof approach I didn't care for and although fit and finish was better, overall I didn't think comparable coaches were so much so to justify the price. But I am a budget guy. Frankly despite the fit and finish I think winnies are overpriced. But to to each his own. Not looking for an argument but Thor is a more of a bang for your buck with concessions on fit and finish. Winnie has better fit and finish (still no where near the best) but prices reflect it, however winnie seemed to be less innovative. Winnie makes a nice coach, no doubt about it. But they depreciate just as fast, and in the end Thor usually wins on the resale due to the lower prices up front. If it'a coach you plan on keping for a long time I would concede and go with Winnie. It's just "nicer" and better built. For the short term (5 years or so) I would go with Thor every time.

With no discredit intended to those who own and enjoy Thor products, I think it's pretty safe to say that quality is not an attribute usually associated with Thor products.

I agree and I own one. Thrown together. No pride on workmanship.

The 42E is virtually identical to our Tour 42QD. I find it to be the most like being in a smaller version of our home. Almost every manufacturer out there is coming out with a copy of it. The floor plan was the only reason I traded my '08 Tour 40TD, which was very nice. It just couldn't compare to the floor plan of the 42QD and the one you're looking at.

I won't claim that the Winnebago is perfect. They have their known issues. But, I think they have a better reputation and would be expected to have fewer problems in the first few years.
