New vent fan install concern--- intimidated??

The Mrs and I have been eyeballing purchasing and installing either a MAXX AIR or Fantastic Fan in our forward vent opening on the 2014 Itasca 31KE. Power is available at the existing vent opening.

I'd like to install a fan myself to save a few bucks on labor, to keep me busy tinkering, and to prove to the Mrs I still have some brains left. (not sure she'll buy that regardless)

If this class A had a flat roof I'd probably jump right on it, but I am a bit intimidated by the arc/curve in the roof line. While the arc seems minimal at the existing vent opening, I wonder if its so significant that it would be difficult to get a seal with the roof flange for a new fan mount flange with even a minimal side to side curvature to the RV roof?????

(I really wanted an Turbo/ MAXX that mounted to the existing flange which would have been a breeze 🙂 to install but I see they are no longer available)

Anyone had any experience with this exterior curvature issue with a vent fan install on this type of rig?

Thanks for all the good feedback folks. While I feel more comfortable about going ahead with a new roof mount , now I must find a way to convince Momma we need to do this.

She rarely likes to part with $$$ for my mods on the rig. Go figure 🙂

Vortex is much noisier than FF. It is easier to install. I would not want a Vortex in the LR or BR.

The Fantastic fan will seal to the roof just as well as the existing vent does. One alternative though, if you're still concerned about it, would be to upgrade your existing vent by installing a "Vortex II 5-speed Fan Upgrade". Since it leaves the existing vent frame and cover in place, the existing seal is not disturbed. I installed on of these in our previous coach. It worked quite well without a lot of noise.

I like the Vortex alternative and have looked into it. The only drawback is that it moves less than 200 cfm compared to the over 900 CFM available by Fantastic fan. I had a Fantastic fan in my truck camper and it really spoiled us. A great piece of equipment. If I could get that kind of air movement through a Vortex II I'd jump all over it!!

Heh! High air flow, ease of installation, take your pick... :B

About 12 years ago, I installed a Fantastic Fan in the travel trailer I had before buying the MH. The TT had a curved roof, too.

I don't remember all the details, but I remember being a little surprised at how easy it was. I never had a problem with leaks there in the 11+ years I owned it after installing the FF.

Follow the instructions and you will be fine.

I replaced both our forward (kitchen area) and bathroom fans with Fantastic fans remote control fans. Ours is on a 2008 Winnebago which has a slight curvature to the roof. Fans fit fine and no leaks.

I doubt the arc is any concern. The frame will conform just fine. Do be careful up on the roof.
