Onan Oil Change Precaution

When changing your oil, be careful not to brush against the ignition switch on the exterior of your generator. If you are filling with oil and dipstick is out it can create a little mess! Don`t ask how I know. The house battery switch was off. Would it still allow for generator to turn over?

Goes to show ... rigs are not all wired the same and battery shut off doesn't always impact everything. Not going to sweat this one because changing oil is probably the only thing I do well.

Either ours is wired like Bobbo's or at least the remote panel is. Can't prime or crank it (at least from inside) unless the house battery has been turned on.

Mine starts from the house battery, and is wired through the cut-off.

FWIW, none of my 3 Onans have been wired thru the house battery switch, just a straight run to the Onan off the + terminal. The 2 Class B's started off the house batteries. The one C starts off the chassis battery which isn't real good, since it's a longer wire run than the house battery. I may change that when I'm next futzing with wiring.

As if it isn't messy enough already! I take it the genny didn't actually fire, just cranked over...? Still, that'd be crankcase pressure and blow the oil around.

Could be that your genset starts from the chassis battery?
