I did just what you are wondering about last year.
My Onan BGM 5kw generator died after only 74 hours of operation. The crappy plastic ignition rotor had cracked requiring the gen to be pulled and split in half. Got that diagnosed by a tech at answers.com (or justask.com, I forget)
I am a woodworker so I fab'd a quick little platform out of a few scrap pieces of 2x4 and a small 2'x3.5' sheet of particle board for the gen to sit on after I released the mounts. (BTW, The rv was up on the levelers and my gasser has lots of ground clearance).
I also fab'd a studier little table out of more scrap lumber and just clamped it to the underside of the horizontal frame bar with the top of the table level with the top of the bar. I added a couple of quick diagonal pieces to keep both the tables from folding too. I have lots of such junk wood and wood screws. And sanity...
Then I pulled and slid the gen out by hand. The little table served excellently as a workbench. When I was done replacing the rotor and reassembling the gen, I just pushed the gen back in and rebolted the mounts, reconnected the wires and hoses etc.
And it still didn't start.
So something else is also broken. Maybe one of the two little modules for the ignition needs to be replaced. They aren't expensive.
Anyway, the diagnostic cost me $38 with tip. Which was a bargain. And the rotor cost another $40 with shipping. I'll get back to that gen problem later. We have never stayed in a campground that allowed gens, or we always had FHU's.
Good luck. It wasn't a "rocket science" project and it WAS interesting. But typical DIY 2 steps forward, one back...lol

edit: I would like to mod my gen and use the Accuride slides mentioned above when I get a few extra bucks. But if I never use the gen, why should I bother? That's a low priority project.

What I want to do,, and whish they would do it,, would be,, to make the dog house removable. My Holiday Rambler and my old Superior have a box under the couch (HR) or under the back right side bed (Superior) If you can make it removable like the engine you could get to the whole Genny and be so easy to service. I don't know what a Marquis is but I am used to the emerald. I may be getting a 1982 pace arrow,,, with either the emerald or marquis, I forget. but I may design a removable gen box.

The Onan shop in Elkhart has slides for the very thing you're talking about, didn't ask price.. They cut the bar/front support in the front of ours so they could take it out the front.. Then they bolt the bar/support back.. Mike Mathews..

The slides are Acuride and can be purchased from most woodworking stores. Menards sells that brand, but I do not know if the ones they sell are heavy enough.

Mine is on a OEM slide out tray. You can buy the sliders to make them your self, they are available.
