"New" 2013 Hurricane 32A

Poulsbo RV has a pair of 2013 32A's on their lot which are NEW. So this means they've been sitting there unsold for a year, maybe two. Would you folks be concerned about a unit that had sat for so long on a dealer's lot?

Are you going to be moving from place to place every single day? I would imagine the bunk simply would stay down whenever you are set up to camp. Despite the rail system over articulated or other models, it's still nicer than the dinette or jackknife.

Well, I test drove one today. I really like the F53, more than expected. Hands down better to drive than any gas Class C I've driven, Ford or Chevy. Got the engine up to 4500rpm, and it wasn't as loud as I thought it would be. Plus I only found myself wanting full HP when entering the freeway and climbing big hills. We held a 12% grade at 45mph, so no complaints there. Cruising at 62mph freeway speed, no problem carrying on a conversation. Steering stable at speed, with a little jitter on surface streets. OCCC of 2400 lbs, so plenty for us.

Build quality is about what I've heard about. Laminate peeling off the countertops, drawers make of pretty thin rickety plywood, cabinet door corners poorly joined. Everything worked, just you know, it's no Newmar 🙂 That stuff we can deal with. Biggest concern is moving the overhead bunk up and down every day (covered that in another thread).

...Be all that as it may, Old Biscuit, I promise you, if you asked for a new set of tires on a new 2013 Motorhome like is being described here....Your request would not only be instantly denied, it would probably be the subject of a lot of jokes and laughs by the sales team after you left. And, it'd probably make them think not very highly of you, and not willing to deal/negotiate AT ALL with you on it, on anything.

No dealership is going to throw in a $3000 set of tires in a situation like this (unless they're already asking ridiculously too much for it and you agree to such price, in which case you're paying for those new tires, anyway, haha).

Here again, we're not talking about 4 ST trailer tires that never have moved for 2 years and cost only around $100 each and have just a 4 or 5 year life (and known to blow sooner than that in many cases, but thats a whole 'nother discussion). We're talking about 6 heavy duty, large tires similar to whats used on heavy trucks, very expensive ($400-500 each), made to last 7-10 years, and most certainly HAVE moved some in last 2 years. They ain't replacing those as part of the deal, without you paying for it one way or another. 🙂

We bought our 06 Dolphin as 1 year old "new" unit with around 300 miles on the clock. Got full warranty on everything. The batteries tanked after 3 years of use, not bad considering the abuse they get on a lot. The tires, Michelins, started cracking after 6 years of owning an Michelin adjusted them crediting almost the full price equivalent of 1 tire of the 6.

Make sure no excess wear and run it through the bluebook, we paid out the door with fancy wax job, scotchgard interior, and 7 year extended warranty $1000 below bluebook for 1 year old used coach.

Thanks. Good advice... They must be proud of their pricing alright! Searching RVT for 2012/2013 Hurricanes, sort by Price (Descending) the top priced units are ALL theirs, followed by Lazy Daze. After that come the more reasonably priced units. And then when you get to the bottom, the $60k units... Mmm, 60k!

I had that problem Carlos, (price) with Poulsbo RV! I ended up buying from Roy Robinson RV in Marysville! I'm glad you smelled that one out!

Stationary tires get flat spots, lose flexibility and dry rot due to constant exposure to elements WITHOUT any benefit of actually being used, heating/cooling, rotating at speed---which are what helps keep tires from aging prematurely.
Be they MH, trailer, car or wheel barrel tires.

It goes without saying that since it's never been titled you will get full warranty on everything, just like buying anything else new despite it's year. You don't even have to ask for that, it's new. Me thinks, 'Old-Biscuit' is thinking about towable RVs, not Motorhomes. If this was a towable RV (TT or 5er) with ST tires on it that had already sat for 2 years, then I can definitely see asking for new tires. ST tires only have a 4-5 year life, and with 2 years already gone, I'd ask for new tires in that case, too.

However, we're talking about a Motorhome here, not a TT or 5er. Motorhome tires cost much, MUCH more than ST tires that go on a trailer, and last much longer. Also, since its a Motorhome, the tires have most likely NOT sat still for last 2 years. The MH has probably been on several test drives, to various RV shows, driven around the RV lot, etc.

That being the case, Effy is right - Asking for new tires is not necessary, and a ridiculous request that will be quickly declined.

As long as its what you want, and you do a good, thorough inspection and find everything working as it should....I'd have no problem buying a unit like this. I actually prefer buying one like that, as you get all the benefits of a new unit, without paying quite as high a price for it. A 2 year old unit, even though still technically new, should be discounted significantly!

If you are stuck on a 32a, find a camping world near you. If they have one in their network they can ship it up. A quick search revealed one in NY, granted a pretty far distance but if they get it to you then I am sure they'd do a better deal. No harm in getting their best price and pit them against your local dealer.

Give it a try but I will be surprised if they will work with you. My big concern would be the batteries as they have gone through two winters without being serviced. They should replace them in the deal. What I have found is that dealers for some reason do not want to deal on models that have sit for so long. They have to finance what is on their lot and they usually try to get what they have lost back on the sale. It makes no sense but that is what usually happens. If you want a Winnabago find a dealer that will work with you. The discounts are usually largest before the unit is manufactured. It is a quick turn for them; one which they will not need to carry on their lot. Get what you want at the price that you are willing to pay as they are all so darn expensive and you have to pay for it.

Good advice, thanks. I'd prefer to use the old tires and batteries to reduce the price, especially because new rubber of my own choosing and electrical system upgrades (with new batteries) are high on my list anyway.

Yes, I do know... I'd prefer not to deal with Poulsbo as well, but the nearest 32A otherwise is in Michigan.

I wish I could just find a Winnebago we like, and then deal with Roy Robinson who I quite like so far.

Dealer has loss due to them still being on the lot so YOU are in the bargain captain seat.

It goes without saying that since it's never been titled you will get full warranty on everything, just like buying anything else new despite it's year. You don't even have to ask for that, it's new.
