recommendations for a cheap, decent backup camera?

I have a 95 telstar class C. It has a huge clunky Voyager black and white monitor and wired camera that has bit the dust. Picture was grainy to begin with. Any recommendations for an under $200 system that also has night capability? wireless of course for easy installation

Rear View safety is the one I got. The camera itself is heavy duty. If it is mounted on New York trash trucks and buses, it's gotta be heavy duty to withstand the rigors of their winters. This is about the only camera system that comes with the Multiplexer included. I have not seen any of the others come with this. It also includes the 60 ft. cable, which none of the others include.

Odd that prices have gone up so much on an electronic item. I bought a wireless system for $99 at a local big box store in 2004. And another one the next year for $69 at a discount XS Cargo store. Both work well.

I also got a $50 camera 4 years ago from Amazon or E bay. It is a Pyle (brand name) it has served me very well the last 4 years. I wired it so I can turn it on when I want it on. I tow a boat that I otherwise can't see. Works great for backing up the boat or into spots. The monitor is small, about 3 X 5 but works better than expected. I have been pleased and when this one buys into it, I'll get another.

This one is not wireless but is pretty easy to install and works great with a nice big 7" screen. I started a review of it here: Backup camera and will be updating the review soon as I have now installed it and I am loving it! Amazon has it on sale right now for around $50. It does night vision nicely also. If you have questions just ask, The install is still fresh in my mind.

I just replaced a Voyager black and white system with a Rear View Safety 7" LCD Color Backup Camera System with Audio that I found on Amazon for $219 including free shipping. Here is the link.

It's not wireless, but I used the cable that was already in my RV. It was a 4-wire cable and the new Rear View Safety system came with a 5-wire cable.

I contacted their customer service and found out that I didn't need the green wire that was only for switching from mirror to non-mirror.

I cut the connectors off of both the new cable and the existing cable and soldered the new connectors onto the old cable and now everything works great.

It sure beats the high price of a wireless system.

If you go to ebay and search for "wireless rear view monitor system", you will find several systems in your price range. Unfortunately, you won't know how well it works until you install it. Some folks here on rv.net have used wireless systems that work, and some have problems.

If you're handy, you can buy a CCD camera with night vision, and a 7 inch lcd monitor from ebay, and cut/splice/solder the connectors to your existing cable. Of course, you should cable up the camera/monitor first to be sure it works because when you cut/splice/solder you'll probably lose any warranty that may be on the camera/monitor.

I've purchased a complete system from an ebay vendor Leviathan_Holdings http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ssn=leviathan_holdings&rt=ncand found it to be good quality. This vendor currently has a complete wired system for $230.

I bought mine from Rostra and the camera is built into the rear view mirror. It works good and has held up better than a cheapo unit I had before.
It goes for about $265 and I think that's about as cheap as you can get a decent unit for. Otherwise you'll just be replacing a cheaper unit after a year or so.

You stated you want a non-wire camera, but have you asked around how good the wireless is? Not everyone is happy with wireless. Sometimes you get interference. As for a recommendation, I also had a Voyager black and white and replaced it with a color camera and monitor from a company in New York that provides camera systems for their city's large truck and bus system. It was $261.49 with tax. It has night vision and came with a 66 ft. cord and a splitter box to add two additional cameras. While this system I bought is not overly expensive, consider this...you get what you pay for!!

Yes. Send the DW to look our the rear window with instructions to shout loudly just before you hit the gas pump. Works for me. :W

When my camera died, I contacted RV Cams for a replacement. Give them a call.
