Replace bathroom sink

Has anybody replaced the plastic bathroom sink that has the little plastic plug in the drain to hold water with a real porcelain or cast iron sink with a real pop up drain?

I realize the difference in weight. Just wondering if the hole in the counter is the same size as a standard house bathroom sink?

thanks.

We are in the process of replacing our cheap plastic sink and the formica counter.

We had a scrap piece of granite left over from work, bought a bar sink (although IKEA has some nice ones too) and undermounted the sink to the granite. No more sink lip to clean around.

In the pic below you can see the Moen bath faucet we took off a job a few months back.

That is a clever idea!

If you elect to change the drain. Cut off a 1" piece of broom handle, find center and drill a pilot hole. Whittle that piece down so you can hammer it in the existing drain hole. Then you'll have a center for you hole saw drill bit.

Less mechanical functions less to vibrate and break. Weight is reason fo plastic.

The counter was so small it was easy to pull it and replace and then we added a vessel sink that sits on top of the counter with a small hole. It was in a prior motorhome but it was the nicest bathroom sink and counter I have seen for a small cost. If I hadn't traded so much I would do it again in a minute. Love the countertop vessel for looks and function.

I didn't replace the sink but while on this subject I did replace the drain in the bottom with a residential style and then installed a nice pop up type drain sold at Lowes.Push down on the center to stop flow and push again it raises and flows water out.Works and looks much better.

I replaced my plastic stained sink and plug with a stainless unit. The drain is slightly larger but it is basic plumbing to hook up. I did change the counter top as well to compliment the new sink. That let me cut the sink opening exactly to fit. About 3 inch high brushed metal stick on tile backsplash to finish the look. Wife is very happy! Doug

A countertop vessel looks kind of like a bowl sitting on top of the counter instead of being inset into yo countertop .

Sorta, but like Old-Biscuit, the geometry was all wrong. I ended up buying a whole cabinet and sink top. It was a little larger than the original, but fit okay. I don't think it cost much over $100 at Lowes.

Wanted to but the hole in counter top was oval and was too large for some sinks I found and was too small for others BUT there wasn't enough counter top left to enlarge.

So I replaced faucet with a nice residential one and bought a rubber stopped to plug sink
