Rescued by the Roadtrek again.

We had an ugly storm come through early last night. With it came a power outage that lasted until about 7am this morning.

Not to worry. We gathered up pillows/sheets/TV/some DVD's and off we went to the Roady.

Fired up the generator, switched on the AC, watched DVD's until it was time to go to sleep, and then slept throughout the night in air conditioned comfort.

And who says RV's are useless most of the time. We've used ours many times in the aftermath of storms that have taken out electricity for hours or days at the time.

We have done this for three severe storms since we have had our RT in the past two years. When we heard Sandy was coming we charged the batteries to full the day before and made sure we had gasoline in the tank to use the generator. We had no electricity in the house for a week and no gas stations that were pumping gas. We could not cook in the house but we could cook on the propane stove or use the microwave in the Roadtrek. We were able to get by with a combination of using the inverter (to conserve gasoline) and the generator and made it through with a little sanity.

Tri-fuel generators are wise. If electric is out, but natural gas is pressurized, you are OK. Propane keeps indefinitely, so keeping a few bottles of that is a good thing. Finally, gasoline is useful, provided the gas is fresh/stabilized.

Oh yes. I consider my Rvan to be my "little" house. My generator is not built in and runs on 3 different fuels and I got it not just for boon docking, but in case it is needed to keep a furnace going in case of a crippling winter storm.

Class Bs can come in handy incredibly. The generator may be small, but it can be used to keep critical things like refrigerators and basement sump pumps going in a pinch.
