Roadtrek Help - Southeast PA

I'm looking for general help in the southeast PA region (willing to travel) I need general things like a/c replacement and awning help (not willing to fold down on the left side and appears correct). Is there a dealer or local group to the area that can assist or point me in the right direction? We're doing a roadtrip (3 weeks) this summer and I'd like to figure this all out before we leave.

THANKS!

They may not want to do the A/C replacement on a 97 Roadtrek because it is not using the A/C that more recent Roadtreks have - the Dometic Kool Cat - heat pump and A/C. Most who replace the older Roadtrek air conditioners do so with a small home unit that fits - which is what the links in other responses here talk about. These A/Cs have to be shopped to find the correct one and then installed. If you had the A/C you may convince them to do the job for you. Since you are not dealing with a specific Roadtrek part, any RV shop may be able to do this job for you - but I am guessing all would want you to supply the A/C. As I recall, at one time Home Depot sold an A/C that fit. Of course, these won't be in the stores for several months.

I have a 1997 versatile. And they did reject the a/c repair. And you are correct. The rest is just questions. I am wondering why they won't do the a/c though. Are there other things they won't fix?

Fretz will service any Roadtrek. It does not have to be purchased there, but it sounds like the OP just wants questions answered (other than the A/C replacement). It does not sound like this is a Roadtrek under warranty. If it is, they will do warranty service whether purchased there or not - but it is a service call and not a show me or explain to me for free. There is also a Roadtrek dealer in New Jersey. Colonial RV in Lakewood, NJ.

To the OP - what year and model Roadtrek do you have?

Fretz certainy carries Roadtreks, or at least they did a year ago when we were shopping. I agree that it would be sleazy of them to not help you, and I would complain to RT.

If they are a Roadtrek dealer then their dealer agreement requires them to service RTs regardless of where they were purchased. I ran into this problem with my RT in Dallas. The dealer I bought it from lost their dealership to another dealer in the area. I had some issues and tried taking it to the new RT dealership and they told me since I hadn't purchased from them they wouldn't service it. I reported this to Roadtrek and they lost their RT dealership. The current RT dealership in the Dallas area has no problems at all working on my unit, although I'm now past the warranty period and tend to do all the repair work myself.

I understand your problem, wish I could help. Well you can't break the AC, it's already broken but it does sound like some heavy work. I believe the biggest problem will be getting the rear AC grill back into place. I had both grills out to repaint and it did take some effort to reinstall the grills although it was worth the effort, they look a lot better with fresh paint.

Thanks for the quick response. I agree about fretz. Unfortunately I have to pull the single mom card. I've seen instructions for the a/c multiple times. I don't have physical help or tool know how enough to do it myself which is why I was looking for a mechanic Or dealer or even local group to help me diy. I'm not afraid to get dirty. I an afraid to break something important.

Sorry to hear that fretz won't help you out with your questions. Don't they realize that just because you didn't buy your present RT from them you just may be a future customer. I am disappointed to hear that because that would have been where I would have shopped for a newer RT. I live in SW Pa.and and own a 99 RT Versatile and they would be the closest RT dealer from me.
On the subject of the AC, there was a topic discussed a while back, I believe on this forum about removal and replacement of the RT AC unit. If you do a search you may be able to find it. If not,I may have it bookmarked on my laptop and I will check it out first opportunity. Bob

I've called fretz. They won't do a/c replacement and since I didn't purchase the vehicle there they won't help me with minor questions like the awning. I'm in Chester count and I have a 1997 versatile since last August.

If you belong to Roadtrek International, they have a list of owners (phone nos.) willing to help other owners. Covers a lot of the cities nation wide. Good for when ones traveling, and need help. They also host several rallies every year.
