Rodent Proofing ? Best Methods, What works, what Doesn't

Only had my Coach stored for 6 weeks, took her out for a quick weekend and found rodent droppings in the house. We do not store any food on board while in storage. It is stored outside in a rural area - on gravel.

What are any preventive measures I can take to keep them out ?

Thanks

The previous owners of our rig swore by dryer sheets. We've tried them, and still got a mouse or two over the winter. Best is to keep a regular check on it and set the wooden snap traps. DOn't let it sit more than a day without checking on it though...there is no worse smell than a decaying mouse.

PURE Peppermint oil from GNC soaked into cotton balls has worked flawlessly in my rural RV barn stored DP for many years. Some dispute it, but I can tell you it works for me. And in the Spring, the RV smells very nice!

I don't know what works.

First we tried Irish Spring chunks only to find that they were chewed on.
Then we tried dryer sheets, we didn't know how poorly that worked until I found a nest that included shreds of same.

A couple of years ago mice built a nest about one foot from a container of moth balls in my snowmobile. I went to snap traps that solved the problem.

I use conventional means... I store my unit in a building that has cats. never a rodent issue in 15 years. Cats always handle the vermin....and leave paw prints...

Biggest thing is plugging ANY hole they can get in. We've just been lucky so far with dryer sheets and peppermint oil.

Ours is a park model (stopped towing) and skirted so it reduces the chance they get in, but they still can. we leave traps underneath and poison too, then check in the spring.

good answers all , but you gotta crawl under the rv and plug ANY HOLE even the holes as small as a pencil. then use fresh cab and peppermint oil drops .

Fresh Cab is being "reformulated" and is hard to find. Amazon lists it as "Currently Unavailable". Besides, it only lasts 3 months. If you don't get in to change it out, the repellent becomes food.

We needed to find something to replace Fresh Cab when we couldn't get it for the store. We found Sniff 'n Stop. Apparently it overpowers the rodent's sense of smell and when they can't smell predators they get nervous and go elsewhere. They claim it lasts up to a year.

I use wood snap traps but no bait. Do not want to entice them to come in. Mice are dumb...they crawl all over everything. They will crawl over the snap traps with no bait. I have caught a lot of them.

I am a believer in using moth balls. I take the small plastic cups, punch some holes in the side and fill about half way with moth balls. I put them everywhere knock on wood have not had a problem.
