Roof Leaks

For anyone with a Winnebago with a fiberglass roof check the chaulking at the drip rail where the roof meets. On my 2013 Itasca 26he there was a seam open almost all the way down both sides of the roof allowing moisture to leak into the sidewalls. Hopefully I caught the problem in time. I cleaned up the seam with alcohol and reapplied new silicone chaulking. Something to watch for on The Winnebago roofs!

I think I am going to go for the eternatape. Looks like a good product.

funny, I just did this job yesterday on my Itasca class C. only had to seal about 4 feet. Rest was good. I don't use silicon either, it doesn't stick well to the fiberglass top. Hard to get cleaned off also.

I use 3M 4200 Adhesive Sealant. I quit using silicon caulk many years ago.

You'd think they'd find a better design. It doesn't take much looking to find far too many issues with the Winnie roof design.
There are 24 hours in every day - it all depends on how you choose to use them.

I quit using Silicone seal 20 years ago . Its very hard to remove for resealing . I have had no problem using KOOL SEAL . To apply lots I use a wooden 3/4 sq. peg & drip if off for a large seam .No problem in 20 yrs. Back thin thats what MH builres used .

I note that that link discusses silicone and the need to remove it.

I am beginning to find that out with our 2013 Itasca 26HE. I usually pick an area on the RV inspect whether plumbing, electrical or whatever other area and I'm always amazed what I find that needs attention or improved upon. I"ve replaced kitchen and bath taps, put in stainless sinks, replaced lighting with Led bulbs, replaced a burnt out awning motor (not cheap). If nothing else I get lots of job offers to work on other people's motorhomes. LOL.

I'd check to see what material winnebago recommends and rip out the silicone and replace it.

People look at me like I'm crazy when I say the first thing to do is inspect everything on the roof and sides. They say, but it's new:)

Please check-- not aware that Winnebago recommends silicone caulk.

But, yes, this is part of routine maintenance on Winnebago roofs.
