I am thinking about removing the dinette booth and replacing it with a table and chairs. Is this a big project? Just looking for a little guidance.

Thanks all

It's not that hard of a project. First, as others have said, check under the seats to confirm that nothing is there that would prevent you from doing this. Things like a furnace etc. What we did was to measure how much space the booth took up and wound up buying two 24" wide by 30" high pre built kitchen wall cabinets from Lowes. We bought 3/8" plywood to bridge the cabinets as the counter top base. Since there was a 12 volt and 120 volt outlet on the wall I added the appropriate outlets to the cabinets so I would have multiple outlets in different spots on the cabinets. We kept the old table as it was pretty nice and used it as the spacer between the wall cabinets. Used "L" brackets to mount table top to the sides of the cabinets. Kept the table leg for re use. Screwed the cabinets to the wall. Cut the plywood and attached it to the cabinet tops with glue and screws. We used floor tiles as the counter top and trimmed the whole thing with wood that we stained to match.

The project took my wife and I about 2 days to complete plus staining time. The end result is that we love it and have even more storage room. BTW, we did this while in a CG in during the winter using a drill, mitre box and a borrowed use of a table saw.

Go for it and good luck.

Doug....Our Newmar Dutch Star came with the booth and was the only thing we didn't like, but thought we would give it a try.....didn't like it. On my Dutch Star, they offered three different options for the dining area. I went directly to Newmar and ordered the buffet counter with cabinets, slide out table and two solid chairs as ours came with two folding. My dealer ordered it for me and got me a pretty good deal. We had the folding chairs, so we ordered the solid ones. They were ridiculously priced ($800 each. If I were to do it again, I would order two more of the folding chairs instead.

I sold the booth dinette in one day on Craigslist for $400.00. I had two callers.

It only took a few minutes to take the old one out and install the cabinet/buffet. The metal supports for the tables were different and I had to rework those.

Mine simply bolted to the floor. Undid the bolts and pulled out the dinette. I chose to build a new dinette, though, with 2x4's instead of the lighter wood that had been used on the OEM dinette. The only reason I hesitated to put in a table and chairs is because storage space (we were fulltimers at the time) was at a premium so we didn't want to lose the storage space.

Took our booth out and replace with table and chairs. Not a bad job at all but these are the things to be prepared for:
  • Carpet still had imprint of booth
  • Carpet was spliced under a booth seat
  • Seat belt bolts had to be cut off on one side since access to head was impossible
  • holes left in the wall after booth was removed had to be covered up.
  • Drain pipe under the seat in the corner had to be covered up
Thereโ€™s no fool, like an old fool.

Depends on what is under the booth seats...If it is just empty space or a storage area and a flat floor...easy project.

If there are components, or plumbing, wiring, or wheel wells, or....??? then it's a much more difficult project.

I wish you were closer. I want to take out our table and chairs and put in a booth dinette.

To answer your question...It's probably easy to take out the booth(a bunch of screws). But, what do the wall, cabinet, and furniture look like behind the booth benches. They may be unfinished and would need cosmetic work to look good.

Doesn't sound all that bad to me and has to be easier than doing so, the other way around. Not sure of the majority preference, but we like having a dinette better.
