RV park "age restictions"

What is your experience with this? Owning a 2002 40 DP in very nice condition and appearance; How much trouble will I have with "10 years" rules? I fully understand trying to keep junk out of your RV park, but 10 years? My 14 year old HR is as nice many much newer units I have seen. Planning a trip to SoCal and I keep seeing "age restrictions" noted. THX TB

Far and few in between in my experience.
With a rare encounter, they were too expensive anyway.
Then found that the rule was just in place for a just in case scenario and most said to text them a pic, if it was indeed a nice rig.
Another said that they wouldn't take a reservation, but to stop by and see if a space was available....lol
This way, they could check you out.
Most of the time, if you just pull in to one of these, not a word will be said about it, if your rig and your family doesn't scare them.
In all our travels, I don't think we've ever actually stayed in one of these.

Never had problems with the rules when driving my 1972 Prevost.

Being the type of person I am at times, I would have taken the pictures, but from about 3' away and sent them to them.

One Navy base (Admiral Baker) inspected all RV's for leaks or damage, so they told me at one time. It must not have went very well because they no longer do that. It's really nothing to be concerned with.

MY 1988 Prevost has never been denied entrance to any of these parks. However, we do "fudge" the age of the coach on the rare occasion that someone asks. It's getting tougher each year to get anyone to believe my '88 is really an '06 but if they ever pushed the point we would be happy to go elsewhere and post the appropriate review at www.rvparkreviews.com . We did have one campground say they would only allow a 10 year old coach in the park if we sent pictures of all sides PLUS the roof. We camped elsewhere!

With all the Campgrounds in the US, why would you want to "lie" about the age of your rig? As others have said, those with the 10 yr. rule DO NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS so why make them take it? And yes, I approve of the 10 yr. rule and will refuse to stay in a park that publishes it if my rig is over 10 yrs. of age even by 1 yr.

I have a story about this and I love to repeat it.

We are members of several FMCA chapters specifically for motorhomes that were produced between 1973 and 1978. There are over 8000 still registered.

A wagonmaster sent us an emergency message that a rally (only about 30 coaches) had to be relocated. At the rally, we got to hear the story:

Wagonmaster had made all the arrangements with a campground he knew about but had never used. While on the backhaul from a prior excursion, he decided to stop there. He went into the office and the attendant (true title unknown) looked at his coach as asked how old it was. He told them the it was painted 4 years ago, had a frame-off six year ago but was the last of its kind made in 1978. Attendant replied that they had a inviolate 10-year rule. To this he replied that they had accepted his an other reservations for a planned rally in the near future. Said person replied that can't happen. He went out to his coach and got the list of registered attendees and canceled all thirty-odd reservations and demanded a check to the chapter for any and all fees thus far submitted. He already had the chapter lawyer on his phone when the check was cut.

We had a wonderful time a campground about 4 miles away that welcomed us and treated us very well. They had been very accommodating when wagonmaster arrived there after departing the prior.

That place does have in interesting rule that says that they will not necessarily allow you long term space unless you have been there for at least one before.

I'm in the same boat and have put lots of time and money into making/keeping my rig looking sharp. It is not quite 10 years old yet but when it is I will probably lie about its age if necessary, even tho I don't like doing that.

I only ran across this a couple of times and all we had to do was send some pics, than no problem. Now I keep a set on my computer just in case.

The only ones I'v heard about having that policy were were ownership resorts and the rule was part of the HOA bylaws. I can understand the neighbors don't want a derelict renting the space next door.

As the owner, developer, rules maker of a RV park (not a resort) I have the 10 year rule as a benefit for my other site renters. It costs me money when I turn away a POS and yes I do not ask a well maintained rig how old it is, even when I know it's a few years more than 10 years old. If you have a nice looking 12-14 year old rig I would not worry about it's age.

As the owner of a Airstream I know how ageless they can look. I pained me recently when I had to say NO to a nice couple with a nice looking Airstream motorhome... it was 22 years old. If you bend a rule that much, someone else is going to make you regret being nice when they say "well, you let them do xyz".

"If a park has age restrictions, they don't want your business anyway. go somewhere else." I'm pretty sure I'll be glad you went elsewhere... it's still a free country.

That is my plan, she gets newer with age. Most dont really care. Just a way of keeping repairs out of the park.

We are in a 10year old rule resort. Our alpenlite is soon to be 15 years old. Looks is everything. Chevman

I have an '02 and have never had a problem. Keep it in good repair and clean and you will have no problem
