Sales Advice - Lots f Interested Buyers!

Hi Team,

We advertise our Class A on RV Trader. We priced it at $10K less than its nearest competitor. In addition, ours had 4 years left on a XtraRide Platinum Warranty and several significant upgrades.

Well, within less than 48 hours we have been overwhelmed with interest and folks are rushing to view it first. We alreaddy have one person who says they will outbid all others.

So what would be a reasonable way to manage this? Allow folks to view it and submit offers for a week or so. Then chose the most attractive one (may not be highest price).

I know it is a good problem to have. However, I would appreciate your thoughts on ways to proceed.

Thanks

You priced the MH for a set price. The first person to show up and put the advertised price IN CASH is the new owner. f you stated a price you should live with it. If you start a bidding war, I would walk away because you are being dishonest in your requested sale price. I would tel you to keep it and let everyone know that you are not to be trusted.

I just sold my old trailer. I first did a back of the hand calculation and figured I paid $6500 for it 12 years ago, so really I don't need anything for it now to be a good deal, lol. After some quick craigslist comps and Nada research, I set the price way higher than I figured I could get, but lower than I saw others for sale, $4500.

Got a ton of texts/calls in the first day, and the first guy that drove over bought it for $4k after a little haggling (part of the charm of craigslist, it just is what it is). He didn't even go inside or check out any of the systems, made me feel a little stupid for spending a lot of time fixing little things and getting it all ready for sale!

Despite his obviously BS story about needing it for his homeless sister, I'm 99% sure he's just going to sit on it all winter and resell in the spring for a quick $1000 more than he paid. Good for him, if you're into the whole bartering thing. Some people enjoy that stuff I guess.

Different price point than the op of course, 1k is different than 10k. But for me a quick and easy sale is totally worth it.

And now I have cash in hand to have leveling jacks installed on my new (to me) motorhome! :B

Because RVs sell better in March and April than they do in November.

A lot of responses here but not many answers. It is pretty clear you under-priced the rig. Doesn't make you a bad person. Re-price it if you want. You have no professional, ethical or moral obligations here. It was an honest mistake. The rig is worth what a buyer is willing to pay.

I think your own suggestion was the best one yet. Let the interested parties know you will accept offers up to a certain date. Then take the best one. If that transaction falls apart you can always go back to the next best offer. Or the one after that. The interest is clear. These buyers, or at least one of them, will still be put there. One is all you need.
Good Luck!

"mike brez"......I understood EXACTLY what you meant, ethically and morally, do the right thing. The right thing would be to sell it to the first person who comes with cash and pays the asking price.

As usual, some here take something literally and then argue about it....one person in particular!

Cruz-in, I think you've already gotten your best advice. You'll just have to sort thru the 'stuff' to find it. This isn't a real estate transaction so all that can be dismissed. If you have a list of buyers, start at the top and start calling. First with the cash gets the rig. Pretty simple. Don't be surprised though if no one comes through. Cash talks, BS walks.....good luck...Dennis

Cruz-in, you are selling a Monaco Vesta, right?

It would be nice if Monaco resurrected that coach with a Cummins and get all the quirks taken out. There is a HUGE thread on the other RV site specifically for the Vesta.

Those were/are nice coaches and a little tweeking would make it a fantastic seller again! (in my opinion). 😄

Good luck,
MM.

I went through the same thing as a buyer. We knew what we wanted and there are precious few on the east coast. It took us six months and we lucked into the current coach. I did not go over the top on the price though. The seller had no idea what he had, he just wanted to sell everything and move to the DR. I made him what I thought was a reasonable offer and he accepted.

The reason I advised re-pricing is that we had a plane owner in a similar situation. He had a highly sought after model of a Bonanza that the "cult" was always looking for. Several over-asking offers in the same day convinced him that he had something special and was leaving money on the table. He put it back on the market the following spring at a higher price and the plane sold in 2 days.

Unless you need the proceeds to buy another rig that you will be using over the winter, I'd put it back on the market in March.

It is a very niche Class A. Only about 100 of them built. This one is in excellent condition, has unusual high value upgrades (like an exhaust brake), and 4 years left on a Platinum XtraRide Warranty. Folks that are calling and coming to visit are telling me they have been looking for more than a year. The Rv Dealer that called said they had sold three of them this year and her sales people keep asking her to find more.

Just had a buyer for a large prominent national RV dealership call me. They will wire cash, send someone to pick it up, transport it to their closest dealer (2,000 miles away) and offered me 7% below my asking price. That tells me I under priced it big time.
