thinking of trying a thor 29-2 any one have good or bad thing to say about ?
We have had a 2013 ACE 30.1 for over four years now and love it. We've been very pleased with the build quality (even though it is an entry level coach) and the few minor things that had to be addressed were all taken care of by Thor under warranty. The only major issue we've had is a blown torque converter, which of course was a Ford issue, not Thor, but it too was handled under warranty.
We are just wrapping up a 7500 trip as I type this. On the road we've had another couple issues (the most serious being a problem with the bedroom slide) but nothing that has hampered the trip and nothing that would dissuade me from buying another ACE.
HOWEVER... understand that all RVs nowadays typically come off the line with a shameful number of quality problems. We just spent 3 days next to a guy with a brand new $500,000 unit from one of the supposedly top quality manufacturers who was going on and on about how we was going to give the manufacturer a snootful when he took it back to the factory for repairs. There's a series of articles being written right now about the RV industry "death spiral" and the abysmal quality of new RVs features prominently in that analysis. Read any of the rvtravel.com editorials on the subject and it'll really impress upon you the extent of the problem.
There's not much you can do about the industry problem, but I do recommend that you do a very, very thorough pre-delivery inspection (true for any unit, but especially for an entry-level version) and do not take delivery until you're happy that all of the major systems and components are working to your satisfaction. There are lots of PDI checklists available online.
Once you've got a unit that is working fine, just keep a good attitude. There will be issues as you travel, it all comes with the territory, and so long as you keep your spirits up and don't let the small stuff grind you down, you'll be a happy camper.
