Towable? Mini Cooper

My toad is wearing out, I'm sad to say. Anyone know if a Mini Cooper can be towed?

What if it is a stick (manual) trans? Would like one, I think but it's got to tow or I'll be looking for another Saturn.

As mentioned in an earlier post, the steering does no lock on the 2nd generation Minis, and the key does not need to be left in the ignition.

The OLD "rule of thumb" was that any manual tranny car could be towed 4 down. I think today it's "almost" any manual tranny car can be towed 4 down.
Your owners manual should say....but the Minis' have one of those new fangled computer "keys", round in shape and chipped. I would wonder if that could be left in to keep the sterring wheel free...or whether a fuse would have to be pulled....you're gonna have to check things out.

We tow a 2008 mini clubman S 6 speed.2008 and newer steering doesn't lock, no key in ignition just put in nuetral and go.Used roadmaster base plts.$399.00 from American rvcompany,stowmaster tow bar craigslist $100.00,magnetic lights from roadmaster $69.99.ready to go.My son and i installed base plt 1.5-2hrs,not bad came with good instructions.Mag lights are a little pricey but come with a much better cord, magnets are very strong no movement come with protective plastic pcs no marks on roof.Installed last spring towed aprox. 2500 miles every thing worked great,if it wasn't for rearview camera would't know car was back there.

Lots of threads on this forum already regarding the Mini Cooper, and a search would be beneficial to the original poster. With that said, I flat tow my Mini Cooper and so do many others on this forum. Stick shift only as the automatic would need some sort of lube pump. Mini says, "No".

If you want to stay small, check out the Honda Fit - auto tran can be towed 4 down.

We towed a 2005 Mini S Convertible for several years. It is an easy car to tow. Light and fun to drive when you get there. We just put the six speed manual into neutral and turned the key on then off and away we went. No issues at all.

But that doesn't mean that it can't be towed. Lots of toads that the manufacturers says can't be towed, are being towed. This is mainly because they don't want to deal with the legal liability. Remco Towing's Product selector guide is a good place to start looking.

Check the application chart at remcotowing.com. It will tell you by year, make and model what need to be done to tow 4 down, or that it cannot be with a modification, or that a dolly is needed.
