What 22.5 tires are good and won't break the bank?

Getting to the point where I need to replace my tires on my Motorhome. Not because of wear because they only have 33k on them but more because they are 8 years old and are starting to show some dry cracks on the sides. Also my steer tires are worn on the outside edges so I'm sure an alignment will be needed also. So right now I have 235/80 22.5 Michelin XRV's but the local tire shop wants over $500 a piece. Ouch.

So what's a good tire out there that will fit that will be a good tire. I know there has to be something out there that's not an RV specific tire that will be just as good. Tell me what your running and what they cost.

Ok so you Toyo lovers what model and size did you go with? Also is there an validity in using wheel covers to prolong tire life?

I just replaced my Goodyears with Toyo's and used liquid balance in all 6 of them. I am very satisfied with the ride and handling. My price was 1950.00 for 6 tires mounted and 125.00 for the 6 qts of liquid balance.

I had to replace my Honda CR-V tires in St George a couple of years ago, and had great service and price at Gene's OK Tire there. My braking system failed and the Honda stopped the MH from 60-0 in about 200 feet, and squared off the tires.

I usually use Les Schwab Tires due to their service, but they were not available in St George. Gene's tires were about $40 per tire cheaper that Les Schwab would have been.

I just replaced my (6) 235/80 22.5 Michelin XRV's due to checking and age rather than tread wear. I paid $400 per tire for Toyo's at Les Schwab. They were the cheapest reasonable tires that I could find.

Befriend tire shop people.
It was few years ago when I needed 8 tires, so I bought 2 new Michelins for front and I bought used for rears at $100 a piece for Michelin with about 20% of thread. They were 2 years old at the time and now at 10 years are due for replacement, still with lot of thread.

I replace my Michelin with Hankook 225/7OR19.5 in July 2013 because of the price difference and the many good comments about the Hankooks on this forum.

I've now got 12,520 miles on them and they seem to be doing quite fine.
