New Tires.

Jim Brooks, another '96 Safari owner, suggested to me that I take a look at 265/75R22.5s to replace the OEM
9R22.5s

The 9Rs are getting harder to find and it would be nice to have a metric sized tire for better availability. The 9Rs turn 543 Revs/mile. The new tires turn 540 revs/mile. A negligible difference.

I checked and the only difference between the tires was that the 265/75s were once inch wider and one grade level higher capacity, going from F to G. An issue which several people asked about was the dual spacing.

I did quite a bit of research on the web and everything indicated that there would be no trouble.

Got the new tires mounted today. Toyo M154 265/75R22.5 with manufacture date of 51st week of 2009. The tire service manager said that this was the recommended replacement for the previous tires. Dual spacing was very good, looked to be about 3".

Out the door, with taxes, steer wheel spin balancing, front-end alignment, and a 100$ credit for five tires came to $2200. I was hoping for more credit on the old ones but no other dealer I talked to would offer anything for the 9Rs.

I only live about 15 miles from the dealer so the ride home was barely enough to make any comparisons but it seemed to me that the ride was a little softer and the extra tread width made it a little more secure driving.

My conclusion is that this is the perfect metric replacement for the old 9Rs that so many mid 90s Safaris came with.

Ok, Here they are:
First shot is of Jesse in the area between the slide and Frame when the slide is out. We are building a frame to mount the hydraulic pump.

The second shot is of the front drivers side jack. We had to remove the propane tank on the passenger side to mount it.

The third shot is a picture of the completed frame. It is made out of aluminum l brackets. The top mounts to the floor fram and the vertical sections to the frame and the top piece.

The next shot is of the hydraulic unit mounted and ready for service.

This shot shows the location of the control unit on the dash.

This is a close up of the control unit.

Helped a friend install Bigfoot levelers on his Itasca 32' Class A. Still waiting on the rear brackets to be welded on to mount the rear jacks. Once hooked up all that is necessary is to purge and start up the system. Two of us spent 11 hours so far! Mounted the pump assembly on the frame behind the slide and the control unit on the dash. Looks like factory installation! I have pictures if anyone is interested.

Got the slide covers washed and repaired bedroom cover as it was separating from the top layer at wall. Fixed with universal gray tape sometimes known as Duct Tape
Then washed the roof and got all black streaks from winter storage cleaned off. Will do roof with Mop&Glo tomorrow when it's dry. Gonna take it for a 400 mile run this wk/end then move it to summer place in a couple weeks.

Just dropped it off to have the refridgerator recall work completed on it. After it comes back from that, it will get a new rear anti-sway bar and either Bilstein or Koni shocks before we hit the road for the East coast at the end of May.

Took off the Air Cleaner to replace the filter and found the filter cartridge they sold me was not what I needed. So I put the cleaner back in and had to order the correct cannister. (This is not an easy job, I learned the hard way you do not replace the filter you replace the entire Air Cleaner).
Replaced the Chrome end on my exhaust pipe.
