People sometimes ask us that. Well, this is the time of year to show you. :B

Our favorite wildflower, California Poppies
They have cheered me in the darkest times.
200 years ago, they blanketed the Golden State.
Now they are far fewer,
but you will always see them in our yard.

othertonka is my handle. When I was a young lad, I had a Tonka truck and still like Tonka toys so when I registered for AOL I asked for Tonka truck. They said it was already taken, so I asked about just plain Tonka? It was taken so I asked about the "othertonka"? They said it was available so I grabbed it. Been using it for years. I live in the middle of sprawling Lake Minnetonka, MN and grabbed off some Tonka names early on in the AOL startup days. 🙂 The only active one today is my wife's, TonkaNancy, but she rarely uses it. Send email there and it goes into the ether. I think she uses it online at sites that ask for email addresses when she does searches and shops, so it is a junk mail collector.

The Tonka toy trucks used to be manufactured in Spring Park on Lake Minnetonka but have long since been moved to Mexico and then China I believe chasing the cheap labor.

Before retiring, I used to work in computer systems. We often had to create fake data sets for testing, and they always required a name for each entry. Jim Shoe, Ben Dover and his sister Eileen, Bill Ding, Bob N. Forapples, Hank O'Hare, Johnny Brush, Terry Towel, Bobby Pin, etc. Sometimes we wasted an entire day. 🙂

I have used DYngbld for years, early BBS days, ICQ, usenet, etc.. if you see it on other fourms it is likely me, I didn't see a reason to change it from place to place. I am really not that creative It is my first initial D, and my last name without vowels. My wife uses KYngbld on most fourms.

Only other handles I use are my Ham call sign, (KE4HTS) or the GeoCaching handle (The Caching Crew)

Mine was fairly randomly generated, was used for an old MUD in the mid 1990s for an administrator account (I didn't want to run it as the root user, nor did I want a username anyone could easily guess), and because I got used to typing the username in, I just started using it on forums.

I started a business (custom gifts, trophies, awards, engraving, etc.) based on my hobby of turning pens on a lathe. I got into the real awards business because people wanted their name engraved on their new pen and I got tired of sending them out to be engraved. It's amazing what you can do with a laser. I still use the name PenMan.

Oh, Man....I though your were originally from Pennsylvania. Shoot! But I guess that would have been PennMan...

As for my Handle of DesertHawk.....it was my olden days 'CB' Handle from the '70s.

I live in a Desert & like the Desert, always liked Hawks...liked the 'M*A*S*H' TV Show....liked Hawkeye in it & the Hawkeye in James Fenimore Cooper's 'The Last of the Mohicans' even better.

I was always a good shot with iron sights growing up & liked the handle of Hawkeye.

    Therefore,
    DesertHawk.

Lots of good stories here. I was actually born here in NM and glad to be back after 30 years on the east coast.
