removed rear window today without breaking it and installed plywood replacement. Next will be bracing and sill on inside before AC can be installed.

Impressive project. Do you have an onboard generator for when you need to run the A/C longer than the batteries can hold out?

Not yet. I typically drive around enough in the day to keep the charge full. But now that I have the ac I'm thinking of getting the Honda 1000. I have one of those hitch mounted carriers with a large aluminum box that I sometimes travel with to store extra gear and the little Honda would fit in it easily. No hurry but probably will.

Found a nice shower curtain rod and thick curtains on sale at Target yesterday. I mounted the rod just behind the front seats, and it works perfect for a privacy curtain. I have shades on all the windows aft of the seats, and now the whole living area can be closed off at night. Such a deal! ๐Ÿ™‚

Window AC project now complete

So basically this was the last step. I now have ac when parked! Yeah! Ready to roll any season. Portable heater for cold nights. Window fan and screens for comfortable nights. And ac for hot nights. Full size bed is always made. Microwave for quicky stuff. Frig, TV, fan and micro can run off invertor when boondocked. AC only pulls 5 amps so it could run off invertor for a short time (one deep cycle battery). Camp stove for bigger meals runs on LP bottles. Coleman lantern same. Both 12v and 110vac lights inside for nighttime use. Porta potty when needed, but mostly use campground or rest stop facilites. Water for coffee, etc in gallon jugs so no complicated tanks or plumbing. Of course the wife prefers the Class A, but this van has been all over the Rockies and north to Maine many times. Gets into places the big RV can't. The dreaded hot humid nights are no longer an issue. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just wondering why you started a new thread, you could have just added to the original one.

Good start! It's a bit of a pain as a project, but will be worth it to sleep cool and dry at the end of a long day of driving. :B
