Winnebago Quality control

I have defended Winnebago in the past to the frustration of some who were having trouble. I have owned a lot of Winnebago motorhomes and have had decent luck with them. I am starting to revise my view. Last year we purchased a Sightseer 35G. It had a series of problems which we dealt with straight from the factory. A slide that squeaked terribly if I didn't lube it monthly, a speaker that had static too the point I pulled the wires after several attempts by dealer to fix it did not work. A radio that had to be replaced. A drain pipe that was too short. A pressure relief valv with post nasal drip and bay doors that all needed adjustment. It was ok but was the worst I had experienced. I traded it this year for a Suncruiser 38Q 2016 that arrived on Nov 4. This coach just reached out and grabbed us and so we traded with what we thought was a good deal. With the November arrival we have not had time for a real shakedown but enough to have it home for five days and operate the systems. We found the satellite did not work. I wanted to add a steering stabilizer and beefed up sway bar, centramatics and we wanted a couple of new outlets so it went back to our dealer camping world to be stored and have repairs on sat and mods completed. We are leaving for winter trip soon so we have been making sure things are completed on time. We have also gone to camping world frequently to put things in the coach. Today we got a call that said the crack in the roof had been authorized for warranty repair. What crack in the roof. First we had heard. I went there and they showed it to me. A serious crack towards the rear. A shop with the ability to use fiberglass will repair and our trip will be moved back a few days. It took Winnebago 6 weeks to authorize. Both Winnebago and camping world are at fault for that time. Why would it have left the factory with a crack? Why was the satellite wired wrong? I love this coach but now a bit nervous about what is next when it really gets a test. Add me to the list of concerned about Quality control.

But learning I have a crack in my roof from bad fiberglass job is frustrating. We were hoping to leave for a trip but repairs are not complete. 10 inches of snow anyway so will sit tight.

From my experience and takling to other RV owners, motorhomes have no where near the level of quality control people can expect from cars, trucks and motorcycles (at least Japanese motorcycles).

My new Fleetwood had 27 things wrong, and after 6 trips to LazyDays in FL, I gave up and fixed the remaining items myself.

My new Winnie/Itasca was much better with only a dozen items needing repair.

Finding only a few things wrong sounds like heaven.

I know how you feel. I have had 4 new Winnebago with both factory defects as well as not having equipment advertised as being on my motorhome. This will not be my last motorhome but it will be my last Winnebago.

At this point Camping World is providing me with assurances in writing that anything that may result from the crack in years to come will be warrantied by them. They have also said if I am not happy with the repair they will talke the coach back and order new. If they follow thru I am happy with them. Hopefully the roof will be done as promised. From the looks of it and the conclusion of the techs the roof flexed and the fiberglass pulled away. It does not look like it was hit with something. Has anyone heard of a crack in the roof from flexing?

I gotta be honest those issues don't sound that bad. Is it possible the roof had a crack develop after it left the factory? I just had my coach back for warranty items (about 10 things) including a couple things that didn't work at all from the get go. Did they leave the factory not functioning or did something "settle" afterward? Who knows. Anyway I've been back from that warranty trip for only a couple weeks and have a new list with two items on it for the next time.

We bought a 2016 Winnebago Sightseer 33C which we ordered from the factory. We have found some minor quality issues so far. An access panel in the bedroom for shower plumbing had double start marks for every screw. I had my dealer change the panel. The XM radio antenna fell out of the radio. The coax cable that connects from the satellite connection to the switch box provides a snowy picture. Plus other minor items.

The RV industry is ramping up from a dip in the market. RV manufacturer are hiring new employees and are trying to get them trained. Unfortunately their training has resulted in reduced quality that is testing the quality control systems of all RV manufactures. Some manufacturers will do better at catching defects than others.

After delivery I discovered a crack in the front lower fiberglass cap. The delivery driver ran into something. My new MH had to go to a body shop for repairs. After the fiberglass was repaired and the front repainted I had to wait 30 days and then return to the body shop so they could apply the 3M shield.

On the way home from the body shop I had my third P300 (Random misfires) engine light. My coach is currently at a Ford truck service center to find the fault.

Safe travels. JD

I know people who delivered MH from the factory to the dealer. If it is true, the stories they told me, then damaged in transit is a possibility.

The question is WHY is it cracked: installation or chassis flexing?

HUH You are telling us that on a brand new rig your roof is cracked. I would have to seriously consider telling them to keep the rig or give me some money back as well as fixing the problem. They sold you damaged goods. Like a scratch and dent sale. http://40.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lrzge7qmpM1qzr3qyo1_400.jpg

Sorry to hear about your issues. Quality control (if any) on most rigs coming off the floor seems poor, and yet, we continue to buy them. At least they located the roof crack and took responsibility for it, instead of ignoring it and sending you on your way, only to say later you must have struck something.

Hope things work out and your on your way soon!
