Winnebago Travato Quality?

We are looking a B class to our (now gone) beloved PW Excel TD on Ford 350 with V10 Triton...

So far the most economical pricing we found is the TRAVATO on Dodge chassis but we are skeptical with the quality issues of the Van and the Engine...

Over $70,000 investment is a pretty chum change for us to take a wild chance and jump on it!

Any actual owners here care to chime in about if they will do it again or .....???

My local dealer has one that is in excellent shape. I looked at it before I bought my new van. Of course smacking my head on the doorway and the thought of 11-12 mpg lessened it's appeal. It was about $20k cheaper than what they now want for my trade-in though.

We were very happy with our old PW Excel and replaced it with a PW Pursuit on an E-350 chassis with a V-10. For reliability, you can't go wrong with a Ford van IMHO. You might be better off with a low mileage used Excel, some people fine our they can't live with a Class B and want to sell it. Not our case, we were very satisfied and still miss it in many ways. You guys talking about how "bad" the Travato is are referring to the original version 2014. The newer revised version as wincrasher states in his video has many upgrades & improvements from the very first.

Look at the 59K videos and upgrades......

I test drove one. I'm 6'.
Sit on the bench and see what your head hits. Mine hits the overhead storage and the controls on the wall.

Can you easily get in and out with the table set as high as it can go? It was difficult for me.

I liked the shower and bed but nowhere could I find a load rating for the bed. This was over a year ago when they first came out so maybe they advertise that information now.

The panel between the shower and bed rattled while driving down the road with the bed up. The shower slide door rattled regardless if it was open or closed.

I passed.

Quality is not features. It's not layout, and it's not pretty wood cabinets.

It's how it's put together and how it holds up. My Travato has been 100% problem free and has never been back to the dealer for anything.

Proof is in the pudding. I'll probably end up buying a another new Winnebago when I upgrade my van.

Agreed, it's entry level. I liked it a lot, as that niche is mine. I was aiming to get one eventually, but felt it best to go used vehicle right now. The Travato uses the V6 pentastar engine, an excellent engine. It is front wheel drive, BTW. I coveted this van for this very reason (the engine and Dodge Chassis). But then again, I guess I'm a MOPAR fan boy, 240K miles on a Dodge sedan, 140K miles on a van, 135K miles on a van and counting, 100K miles on a sedan and counting (lifetime warranty), I could go on and on. I drive MOPAR exclusively because of the value: price and function. I could find 9 out of 10 people in almost any group who would smirk at Dodge. That's ok, makes them less expensive for me. The statistics show Dodge/Fiat on the rise, and I would take a Promaster RV any day, although I'm not saying it is better than the current Sprinter, just the value priced option.

Anyway, back to the topic: Travato biggest plusses for me were: bigger bathroom, two beds, nice dinette, nice rear storage with fold up bed. Minuses: 46" wide bed is narrow, check the mattress to see how you like it.

I think you should look at the Travato 59k-


i am getting a Roadtrek Zion on the promaster chassis-however the price is much higher.

I would not hesitate to get a Travato 59k if that was within my budget.

I would not consider the 59g however.

I looked at one the other day and walked away
it was on the dealers lot for 6 months
screen door was off track
fittings around windows had buckled
large mat on floor with holes in it from unknown location
upholstery was standard
rear windows didn't open, I like lots of ventilation

I can't say it is a bad unit, it is an entry level B so guess you get what you pay for, even when you pay $70K!
the pentastar (sp?) 3.6 gets good reviews
