Pizza Stone Size

I've read that you experienced cooks recommend using a pizza stone or ceramic tile to even the heat within the oven. I am assuming the stone would sit directly on the bottom metal divider, which is about 4" above the bottom of the oven.

I would like to do this mod, but what size?

My oven is 15 1/8 Wide (13 1/2" between the holes) x 13 1/2" deep (12 1/2" from back to the holes in the metal divider.)

Can you cover the holes?

Suggestions and comments appreciated.

Thanks.

I didn't see how deep the stove was. I wet tile saw will make it work. 😉

Big split between those that put the stone/tile on the bottom of the oven and those that put it under the food on the rack. I'm an under the food on the rack person and never had anything crack or split.

my pizza stone cracked in half too .. I left it in there ... it still disperses the heat.

X2 tried it twice, both times the tile cracked in half. Any tips on type of tile to use (I understand it is to be unglazed).

Why unglazed?...........A glazed tile is fired at a higher temperature and the moisture is removed making for a stronger tile......the one in my oven is 10+ years old and has never cracked.......

Measure your oven. Don't cover holes.
I ordered mine here. (square or rectangle) Two trailers, over 6 years and we USE our oven!
Not the cheapest, but I like to buy once and forget it.

Mine just exploded. It was an unglazed 12"x12" ceramic tile. Wasn't covering up anything. I might try my luck with a pizza stone this weekend.

A 15" round stone should work and all the holes in the bottom divider won't be covered up. Here is more info on using tiles and keeping the oven at an even temp.

We use a 15" X 12" rectangle pizza stone and an airbake cookie sheet.

We have been using one for years. Went to Home depot and bout a ceramic tile for just a few bucks. Always place it on a wire rack and it works wonderfully!

Before we purchased ours, I measured to see what round stone would fit from edge to edge.

On my oven the bottom metal plate has an indentation - the ceramic tile I purchased fits in that indentation/depression - I believe the tile is about 12"x12".
