Press Perc or Drip

I personally perc but many have touted presses and very few want drip. Presses are usualy glass and in my experience break very easily. A friend and one of the leaders for my DGS's BSA troop is a welder and on site often and camping with the scouts at least once a month. His all time favorite press is a GSI Outdoor, Java Press. It is plastic and it is insulated, has standard press. There are several sizes and are pretty sturdy. Look them up on line, he has the small one and it comes with a matching cup. Insulating sleeve is removeable for washing. He throws it in the washing machine when his wife does dark stuff.

I finally got sucked into the Keurig K-Cup brewer. DW got one for me for Christmas. While there are some very good coffee's available, I got the Perfect Pod re-useable so I can still use my Hills Bro's Columbian and EightOclock french roast. It actually uses real filters and not the wire mesh stuff. I brew a much more consistent/perfect cup everytime now. Even my 12 year old daughter thinks so too. The girls love the Hot Cider and the Swiss Miss hot chocolate is the best.

We normally use the drip coffee maker. Just so easy. We also have a keurig in the camper and one of those blue percs. We used to have the smaller stainless percs and liked it much better. But it got lost or something and when my wife went to buy me one, she could only find the blue kind. It works ok, but I prefer the stainless one with the glass knob at the top. It makes really good coffee. We also have a press, but don't take it with us. It's only been used a couple times. Tried the Starbucks via. It's ok in a pinch but way too much like instant coffee to us. But nothing gets used more than our mr coffee drip.

We camp in state campgrounds where there is no power. When we want coffee we use a Coleman drip coffee maker that goes on a stove top. It works very good and the coffee is consistantly good. It does take a few more minutes to brew a pot than the one at home does but not as long as a perculator. It is also used at home if the power is out.

Guess I'm the only one prefers drip.

Tried a Mr. Coffee IMHO couldn't make a good cup if it tried!

All you have to do is steep those grounds in hot water for, say, five minutes and then dump that coffee water into your cup through a fine hand strainer. I've been using a large glass measuring cup that holds four cups (32 oz) with some additional room at the top so that grounds can be put into the measuring cup without over flowing the water. And you have a pour spout, too, by using a measuring cup.

My grandmother made coffee this way for years and after perking the coffee, she simply poured a cup of cold water into the pot and the grounds settled. No reason to strain:W

x2. all the advantages of a french press or espresso w/o any of the cleanup issues.

I perked on the stove for a long time. Finally got tired of waiting and started hauling along the Bunn. So the only time I perk now is when we park overnight without power. I don't bother with the generator in store parking lots. Don't want to get the natives upset.

Aero Press hands down. I've been using one for 4 or 5 years now and wouldn't use anything else. I've done the percolator, french press and cowboy and there is no comparison.

Very simple and produces a reliably good cup. Since I am the only one in my house that likes coffee, this is how I make my morning cup.

No matter what your method, you need good coffee freshly ground if possible, and good filtered water heated to almost but not quite boiling.

Has anyone else noticed the general decline in quality of ground coffee? Most brands are now using higher percentages of robusta beans, which are less expensive but have a bitter flavor. If your can does not say 100% arabica beans, it isn't!

Being as we "Boondock" 90% of the time we boil the water and pour it thru a Melitta type filter I guess you could call it Cowboy Coffee except with a paper filter.

Lot's of ways to make good coffee and it all comes down to personal preference. We love the french press method and have been using it for years. We've got the Bodum large 10 cup Stainless Steel insulated press so no worries about breakage. A bit pricey, but they last many years. Most of the larger presses are better found on line (Amazon, etc) as stores usually only carry the smaller ones.
