Amazon Fire or Kindle?

Just noticed the new Amazon Fire sells for $80. Why wouldn't this be preferable to the Kindle which is more costly? I plan to use it mostly as a replacement for my old Kindle, which is beginning to show signs of failing.

Had the Fire before it played permanent possum. Would not own another. New Kindle arrived this week. Much easier on my tired eyes. So are the font choices. I suppose if I read less it would not be as important. Portability? Sorta tough to stuff a Fire into a pocket. So I use the cellular for Wifi. Kindle for reading and my laptop for more serious online stuff. A brand new Nook was picked up the same time.
I use Book Bub a lot I suppose there are other discount eBook sources.

I can download eBooks from my local library. It works like checking out a regular book. When I check out a book, I have up to three weeks to read it. I can extend the period if needed. Once expired, the book is no longer readable.

So check your library and see if they do the same.

Oh, I looked into the kindle unlimited and I think it puts a limit on how many books you can read during a month. I read very fast, and it wasn't enough books to justify it for me. Also limited books on the kindle plan.

that was on the 11TH 2 days ago on 'prime day'
a once year special event for prime subscribers
there was a whole lot of stuff on special sale

i thought about getting the kindle unlimited reading subscription
reg $119 special was $80

but i read in spurts, i read 4 books last month, i might read 4 this month and i might read only ONE,

i might not read any next month

The little 7 inch Fire was on sale for $30 this week. I got mine a year back when it went on sale for $35. It's a bargain, though very limited as a tablet.

I use mine strictly as an e-reader, and I have not turned on my original Kindle since I got it. I use it in all lighting situations easily.

The Fire is a Kindle - just a more sophisticated version with full-color display. I have a Fire HD and my wife has a kindle PaperWhite. Mine is larger and heavier, hers smaller and lighter. Hers is also easier to read in full sunlight. Mine makes it easier to browse Amazon and the web. As noted, the battery life on my wife's PaperWhite is much longer because of a lower-draw display. The choice is up to you.

Good advice from Tom. I read on my Kindle outside during the day and on my iPad at night.

The Kindle is an eReader which uses eInk technology. It has a black and white display that works very well in bright light. The Fire is a tablet and has a color LCD display. If you will only be reading books, the Kindle would work better. The Fire can also be used to access the internet as well as read books. It can be difficult to read in bright light and has a much shorter battery life than the Kindle.
