Cant Print - Help

I have a Brother MFC240 and ran out of cyan before my new toner order arrived.
I've searched the literature, but I can not find a way to get the thing to print.
Is there any way to program the thing to print black only while I wait for the new color toner cartridges to arrive?
I am using the Brother driver and XP Pro.

My experience is that most printers now require all ink cartridges to be working for the printer to work. If you have one that doesn't, great, keep it.
It seems that when one mfg finds a way for us to spend ink money, the rest follow along.

One of the unknown benefits of inkjet printers is that if any of the ink colors runs out, that part of the printhead can get frozen solid as the ink that's left in there dries out.

After that, putting in a new ink tank won't overcome the block.

This is why most inkjet printers try to get you to replace the ink tank when it gets to the bottom of its load.

It's best to keep spares on hand, and buy a new one each time you replace a tank.

Generally, you can buy a new printer for less than it would cost you to repair it once you let the ink dry up in the printhead.

Bobcouch, this may be your answer. This guy had the same problems and he figured out a way to "fix" them.

First thing Id do is unplug the printer and wait about 1 Minute and plug it back in. Same with the printer USB connection.

Epson got sued for that trick of shutting off the printer for low ink when there was 20% ink left.

Apparently this printer is DESIGNED to be disabled whenever any toner cartridge is missing or empty.
Just tried the copy feature - it has a two print buttons, one for color and one for black and white - and it won't make a copy either, even when the black button is pushed.:M
Oh well, they are in the business of selling toner.

Your printer doesn't use TONER! It uses INK.

Depends on the printer but generally you choose PRINT from the file menu and it opens a pop up ... choose your printer, then click on PROPERTIES (for the printer, there may be mroe than one properties button) and this will bring up another pop up that lets you choose either "Whack and Blight,,, er, black and white" printing or "Grayscale" depending on the printer.

It might work.

If it works you have to do it EVERY time you print. OR.

You can also go to Start/Settings/Printers & Faxes and choose the printer driver there,, And set that as the DEFAULT printing mode.

NOTE: th is is the method for windows up to XP, I do not know about numbered versions that have come out since.

I would try removing and replacing the cyan cartridge- I don't think those are chipped.

Put the old cyan cartridge (if you still have it) back into the holder and see if that doesn't help.

Throw it in the garbage and get a newer model that will allow you to print in black only?

I am using the Brother driver and XP Pro.

Hit the CTRL and the P key and this will bring up the "printer dialogue box" Go to "preferences" go to "features" and tick the "print in grayscale" - You can also find other printer preferences in this same general area.

Should work, but it doesn't. Apparently this model printer is disabled completely when out of any color toner. I need a way around that.
