data plan

I will be departing on an extened trip (8mo.) shortly. I use my computer to pay bills etc.I would like advice on which unlimited data plan you think is best. I don't need a new phone so that is not important. Thanks for any help you can give. All the plans out there are so confusing for me.

although i have months when i only use 3 or 4 gig

I resemble that data hog description. I have about 20 gigs a month to play with--and can use it up in ten days if I'm not careful.

The source was Cherie Ve Ard on facebook. (internet for RVers)

Hi,

There are a few reports of omnilynx units being shut down. One was on Canadian towers--and the others were using a LOT of data.

It was a Verizon Government plan (Alabama Schools) that was opened to the public for some reason. A number of people reported called and visited Verizon and Verizon stores wanting the deal and cancelling or modifying their existing plans. OmniLynx also sold 1800 units in the first 9 months of the year and then sold 1400 in 20 days when they posted the information to the RV forums. I suspect Verizon said "what the heck" and shut down the sale of any additional units. If we are lucky, those of us who got in on the initial deal will be able to keep our units, at least for awhile.

The ride is over for Omnilynx. Too bad really. Those whose orders were not filled will be getting a refund.

It is a Verizon jetpack made by Novatel, and on the Verizon network
And yes it is unlimited

This is exactly what we do. We both use about 10GB a month (okay, so we're hooked on internet)....and found that NO company has UNLIMITED.

I just looked up the OmniLynx -- they're on backorder. But curiously, the Jetpack looks EXACTLY like our Verizon Jetpack....hmmmmmmmm

If you are talking about getting the new OmniLynx unlimited Verizon plan you have not missed it. It is currently on hold while they replenish their inventory of MiFi devices but they should open orders up again soon. In case you missed my referral code, it's 1822.

I never use campground wifi systems, mainly because they're slow. I've got AT&T share plan with 30g data. They do roll over unused data to the next month but it is not cumulative. Most months I have 40 or so gig to play with. IF you see that you are going over you can go on line and up your plan temporarily. A way to save a little money is to get rid of your home internet to offset the costs of the mobile data. My 4G lte is as fast or faster than my uverse internet. I stream netflix etc with no problems, even in the boons, where I have coverage. I rarely find a place where there is no AT&T coverage.

And I jumped on it,
But I do have an old grandfathered unlimited plan on my phone
That's why last month I spent cash up front for a new phone
When my Nexus died, no re up contract changes for me

Another option:

T-mobile now allows rollover of unused data from one month to another. They also have a signup bonus. I switched to this setup yesterday at a savings of $20/mo off my old plan.

I do have a Verizon flip phone for boondocking.
