I have a hr5400 receiver at home that I want to take to the rv but sometimes forget the remote. Can I buy another remote and program it to the receiver and leave it in the rv or will it disable my home tv remote. Thanks

Check out Ebay for your remote. Make sure you get a model off your current remote.

Or put that remote in your RV and get something like one of the Harmony remotes for your house. With one touch my Harmony One turns on my home Samsung TV, my Onkyo 5.1 receiver/surround sound system, sets it to the correct HDMI Input, and turns on my Dish receiver. Or a different touch does all the same except turns on the Blu-ray DVD player instead of Dish. Or a different touch sets up everything to watch live video when my son is broadcasting my grandaughterโ€™s volleyball game via his iPhone to my iPhone that I connect to the sound system. And when done, one button turns every thing off.

You want the rc73 or higher model. Amazon usually has them cheap.

Download a remote app to your smartphone. Remotes don't disable each other.

Short answer is yes. I would try to get same model as your existing one.
